Canon XH-A1 in Premiere Pro CS4

Jul 6, 2010 5:38 PM

Hi, I now use Premiere Pro CS4, and have a question about capturing and editing footage shot on a Canon XH-A1, specifically: HDV 24F footage.

Before using CS4, I used CS3, and had to download a plug in that allowed me to have a Canon HDV 24F timeline.  But I tried using these plug ins with CS4 and they did not work.  Also, I see that in CS4, there is a timeline for HDV 1080p 24.  Will it be okay to use this one?  I see that the timeline sequence comes out as being 23.97 or whatever, rather than 24.

Any advice and assitance would be appreciated, thanks.

The A1 is not progressive, it is a FAUX progressive camera and that is why the format is called 24f. It is recorded in interlaced format so you need a 1080i30 (60i) sequence.

I highly doubted that. Canon 24F is progressive output. It is mimic with the A1's interlaced sensor. But the output file is 24 fps. Not wrapped in 60i

Ken, you do not need any plug in. The 24p timeline preset is included in cs4.  You can edit Canon 24F footage in 1080p24 sequence. The time code will say 23.976, it's fine.
