Royalty free doesn't necessarily mean free of charge.  It just means you can do whatever you want with it once you do pay for it.

Some have music for sale (terms of use vary), and some have free pieces. It just depends.

Some are kind of hybrid, like the Muvipix site. If you just sign-up (free), you can buy original music. If you buy a subscription, you can download that music and much more in the way of Functional Content, for no additional charge.

So, it depends.

Good luck,

The last that I heard from Steven was about a year ago. He had moved for a new job, but seemed about to move again. He was being offered a position out of video production (software coding?), and also mentioned a very limited Internet connection.

I do agree, his input is missed, and we all wish him well,

Those are really good Bill...

I'm also looking for some music.. I found a site that uses a lot of royalty free songs, but they are good, popular songs sun/performed by other artists. Any body know where to get songs like that?

He's got popular songs, performed by unknown artists that are really great.

Where do I get music like that?

I have not run across such, but they probably exist. One consideration is that there are many layers of ownership with music: composer, arranger, publisher and also artist. Regardless of who does the performance, those other aspects need to be considered as well.

Good luck, and maybe someone will have some URL's for you. I will add them to the "list."

If you have Adobe Soundbooth there is a service attached called "Scores" - window/scores - you can download a lot of royalty free music there.

The musician, Moby, generously offers some of his music at no charge and royalty free to independents and students.

http://www.mobygratis.com/film-music.html

You can listen to any of the free tracks and then submit a request detailing your project. I got my request approved within 24 hours. His eclectic music is not going to be a good match for every project, but you have to admire his support for budding film-makers.

Simon,

There are also many programs that allow one to "create" their music, mostly via loopology. Programs, like Adobe Audition, Magix Music Maker, Magix Music Studio and other, install with all sorts of elements, that can be easily combined. There are also some older music "creation" programs, like the discontinued MS Music Producer (probably still available on the Internet - be sure to get and install the patch, prior to first launch), and Jam, that use MIDI to create music.

Lots of choices in that vein.

Good luck,

Mr. Hunt.

Yes Sir, I think inside Adobe Soundbooth, there are many Royalty free songs. I do have the CS5 Master collection which includes The Soundbooth, But I never worked with it. But I have to play with it. I checked the video Tutorials for the Soundbooth, it seems like a simple program. Therefore I have to learn it

Thanks

Do not know about SB, but there are ~ 5,000 "loop" files in Audition. One can use loopology to create all sorts of music, and can set most of the parameters as needed.

Good luck,

Go to the Smartsound web site and download the free Express Tracks software.  It includes 5 free music tracks.  If you do not like those you can download one of your choice (you can preview their selections) for $30.

I am also a really, really big fan of SmartSound. This ARTICLE will give some background, and methods of using their music. Until recently, I had almost their entire library of music, accumulated over the years, and always when they were on sale. Looking now, I see that there are many additions, so I need to sit down with my spreadsheet, and my credit card, and take advantage of any sale going on.

There is almost no genre of music, that is not well covered. Also, there are variations for most cuts, and with the Multi-track music, and Sonicfire Pro 5 Scoring edition (not the free version), one then has an infinite number of variations on each of the 5 - 7 included variations - we're talking close to infinity here.

With much of their music, one can buy and download individual tracks, though I do not believe that they offer that option with the Multi-track cuts.

Spend an afternoon just listening, and you WILL find something that will work in their collection.

Good luck,

Hunt
