Photos Go Dark

Oct 2, 2010 7:43 PM

Two issues w/ photos on CS3:

  1. When I import photos (JPEG) into my project a few of them are black/blank in both the Project Folder and the Timeline.  Interestingly, if a JPEG image imports and viewers just fine it can be imported into the timeline w/ no issues...but later the the picture will go black in both the timeline and the project window.  And, yes, sometimes it comes back again.  The photos are JPEG files that heave been color corrected in Photoshop.
  2. I am editing in a 16x9 format.  When I import JPEG photos and scale the photo I can fill the entire screen w/ no issues.  But when I try and move the image (position and/or scale) the photo breaks up.  I CAN solve this issue by change the Pixel Aspect Ratio to 16:9, but the photo becomes distorted when I do that.

Any help w/ either or both issues would be greatly appreciated.

What are the pixel x pixel dimensions of those problem JPEG's?

Are they perhaps CMYK, or Progressive JPEG's?

    Good luck,

OK, the JPEG's are quite large. What is the Frame Size of your Project/Sequence?

I always Scale my stills in PS. This ARTICLE will give you tips and background.

As for the Progressive aspect, that is only for Web use. Use Baseline Optimized for all JPEG's. They also must be RGB and not CMYK.

    Good luck,

Besides reducing the overhead on the Project and computer, I feel that the resulting quality will be improved with that workflow. On my workstation, I can automatically Scale 100 images in a single folder in moments. Seldom even have time to get a cup of coffee.

Also, with my normal workflow, I do not Save_As JPEG, and just keep things in PSD format. Part of that is because I am not a fan of JPEG, and the rest is just habit.

    Good luck,
