I'm trying to modify some settings to fix a buffering issue. I only see the buffering problems when stream switching. I've tried modifying settings using the configuration tag <optimizeBuffering>, <initialBufferTime> and <expandedBufferTime> but am not seeing any affect. I know my configuration file is being read by the player because <controlBarAutoHide> and <autoPlay> changes show.
Is there any known issues with those settings?
That setting does let all my videos play through but at a cost of a long buffering step before the video starts. Is this normal behavior? I have 3 different stream sizes but all are well under my bandwidth and I have no problems with standard quick start playback in my custom player.
Yeah, I see what you mean.
At the time we implemented the Dual Threshold and Dynamc Buffer Strategies we chickened out at decided not to use them for Dynamic Streams.
There are quite some challenges related to Dynamic Streams - for example for the Dual Threshold Buffer strategy you probably need to disable auto switching until the expanded buffer time is set - but at the same time you need to make sure that you let the player switch down if the buffering takes too long...
The Dynamic Buffer strategy needs to be used only when the lowest quality stream is being played (and we need to be very careful with intermittent network issues).
I created an issue for this: http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/ST-326
We might not be able to get this fixed until our 1.5 release - but we'll try to handle this if we don't discover other high priority bugs in the next weeks.
