Colouring portions of text when converted to outlines

Nov 16, 2010 4:49 AM

I am tryng to colour text converted to outlines and ungrouped. The font is quite fancy including several 5 sided stars. When using the direct selection tool to select one of the stars to give is a different colour, everything changes to that particulat colour and not the star itself. Any tips.

Thanks in Advance

Ian

    Ian,

It may be worth looking at the expanded layer in the Layers palette/panel, to see what is acually there/selected.

Typeface glyphs consisting of more than one path are stored in the font as compound paths. When you "convert" text to paths, you are just accessing those paths from the font. In Illustrator, the result is a Group. Ungrouping does not release compound paths. Select Object>Compound Path>Release.
