Problem with Illustrator CS5

I'm having an issue only in Illustrator.  Whenever I copy anthing, even as simple as a text box, Illustrator completely freezes and I eventually have to force it closed in task manager.  This is only when I try to copy, using the Edit dropdown>Copy or using Ctrl-C.  I have no issue if I paste into Illustrator from another program, such as Microsoft Word.  This started about two weeks ago.  I tried installing the most recent Illustrator update but that didn't resolve the issue.  This is a Windows XP SP3 machine.  Does anyone know how to resolve this?  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

    A security tool is blocking PDF content most likely (since AI uses this as its clipboard format). Check your settings...
