Edit - Preferences - Performance, uncheck [ ] Enable OpenGL Drawing.  Restart Photoshop after doing this.

Do you have the optional Twain_32.8ba plug-in installed in order to access a scanner?

If I recall correctly (some days that's not a certainty), I think there's a bug in some scanner drivers that manifests as a failure with other seemingly unrelated functions (I think a failure of File - Automate is most common, but it could be causing a problem here as well).

No. The only scanner plug-in I could find in the Ps plug-in folder is for an Imacon 3fx64 8BI. However, I'm getting this same issue on 2 machines and one of them is not connected to the scanner. Last time I used File>Automate it worked fine. I'm using Ps4 Extended.

Create a new user ID on your system. Lonon to that new User ID and try Photoshop from that userID.. See if Save for Web works from that ID....

Formerly photoshop crashed when i tried to save an image for web. But it was because i used a version of photoshop "false" without the proper settings.

    Hi Everyone,

Creating a new user account finally did the trick! Thanks for all your suggestions.

In that case I still think your  problem is connected with your user id Photoshop preferences.  That is why I had you create a new user ID to make sure you were getting a default set of preferences.

Hi, When I created a new Photoshop user ID following your instructions, the problem persisted. Instead of renaming the old prefs. should I just delete them altogether or does Photoshop ignore old prefs. anyway?

The most direct way to delete preferences is NOT to fool with files, but to press and hold Control - Shift - Alt immediately after cold-starting Photoshop from its menu entry or shortcut.  If you're quick enough, it will prompt you to confirm the preferences deletion.

    Hi Noel,

I managed to successfully delete the prefs on my second attempt using your suggestion (you were right about how quick you need to be!) however, the problem persists I'm afraid.

First you wrote the new user id worked now you write the problem persisted. Your confusing me what is going on???? Exactly what did you do??? It sounds like you tried messing with the new user id Photoshop preferences. I did not tell you to do anything the the new user ID??????
