Where do you get iPad device central profiles?

Mar 9, 2011 10:42 AM

In a FW CS5 tutorial on prototyping, Jim Babbage demostrats Adobe's device central.  In his screens he has several device central profiles for iPads.  Where do you suppose he found those?  They don't come with FW & I can' find any at the Adobe site or anywhere else on the web.

You'll need to browse for them from within Device Central. Bear in mind they are usually pretty generic.

Maybe I am not understanding your needs here, but device profiles have nothing to do with Fireworks; they are pulled from Device Central, which is an online database of devices stored on one of Adobe's servers. As far as FW is concerned, the device profile's main use is to generate a document with the pixel dimensions of the device. That's pretty much about it.

Check out this screen grab I created a couple minutes ago:

You'll see several iPad device listings, found by using the Browse feature of Device Central and the search term of iPad. In order to make use of the profile, you have to download it to your Testing devices panel, which can be done simply by draggging the desired device into that panel.

Sounds like your firewall or proxy server is causing you problems with getting to DeviceCentral's servers.  I was having the same problems with it because it could not use our proxy server information (a configuration script with IE).  I ended up using my phone as a hotspot to get out of our corporate network.
