Main window "invisible" after unplugging external display

I'm using Audition on a 2010 MB Pro, OSX 10.6.7 with an external Samsung 24'' display.

 

I just unplugged the display while Audition was still open, and now it's gone. Well at least the main window. The Menu bar on top of the screen is still there of course. The main window however seems to have slipped somewhere to the left, out of sight. When I hit cmd+o or open the preferences window or anything else, they all appear halfway off the screen to the left.

 

I tried plugging and unplugging the external display from my laptop, re-syncing the two displays, even re-installing Audition, no change.

 

When I hit F3 to display all open programs, it will look like this:

So, just the Audition label without the miniature preview. Same effect when cmd+tabbing, the Audition logo is there, but the program itself stays "invisible".

 

It's kind of a problem, because i was working on a multitrack session which needs to be done by tuesday...Anyone got any hints?

    HAve you already tried closing and relaunching Audition?  If so, try holding down SHIFT when launching and it should launch with the default preferences, which should restore the window position.  I'll look into this specific case deeper and see if we can reproduce it and if so, how it might be resolved.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

     

    I just tried opening it while holding shift. No change I'm afraid. It did reset the default settings, according to the preferences window, which I can open and see. The program itself is still hidden.

    This is an OS issue, please try:

     

    1. System Preferences > Displays
    2. Click on [ Gather Windows ]

    Hi Charles,

     

    nope, still no change, with the external screen connected or disconnected, sorry

     

    Just one thing, when both displays are on, there are of course two windows for the display preferences, one named "color display" for the Macbook and one named "SMBX2440" for the Samsung 24''. When I click "gather windows" on one of them, the other window will jump behind it and vice versa. Don't know whether they're supposed to do that, so I thought I'd mention it.

    Hmmm... are you available to toggle "mirroring mode"?   I think I've seen that effectively collect all of the windows of the running applications.

    I can activate the mirror mode, however I already did that in the beginning - in the german OSX, "mirror mode" is "synchronize displays", see my first posting. Then I just have a duplicate of both desktops on both screens. However, still no Audition visible.

    Ok, I just figured it out. Well at least I got it back to life.

     

    What did I do? I uninstalled Audition using TrashMe, like I tried several times before. Then noticed that the folder Library/Preferences/Adobe/Audition is not affected by this. I trashed that one, too, reinstalled Audition, and now everything is fine again. So the problem must have been in one of the config files in that folder.

     

    Anyway, thanks for all the help, and if there are any questions you have in regard to reconstructing this problem, fire away.
