Acrobat could not open 'xxx.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type

Apr 15, 2011 6:15 AM

Trying to open PDF files from an Outlook email attachment.  Running Adobe Reader v. 9.3.3 (and would like to stay on this version).  The error that pops up says that Acrobat could not open 'xxxxx.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).

The user with the issue is giong to try to contact the client and see if they can resend.  I am wondering if anyone has run into this and has found a way to get it fixed.

Thanks much.

Some email clients use encoding to make files smaller and therefore transfer faster. PDF's sometimes becomre corrupt when they are decoded.

Best suggestions are to Zip the file before emailing or post to a web site and send a link via email.
