Can only 2 instances of same application communication in a NetGroup?

Hi, I am developing a simply application which involves a presenter and numerous viewers. They should all be able to communicate with each other. The problem is that the presenter has a slightly different flash application with added functionality. Is it not possible to have the presenter and viewer applications communicate in the same NetGroup? Or is there something else I am missing?
