I feel like a mooch here, but I'm in a similar bind - went out of town, brought this project to finish up, forgot to export to IDML. Can anyone help me out?

I don't want to take advantage, but I have a project due at the end of class and I've done the same thing - worked on it at home in CS5.5. Our school computers run CS5. Would I be able to get your email so I can share it in dropbox?

Thank you so much in advance.

Hi all.  I'm so sorry to ask this, but I'm having a similar situation.  I have a document created on CS5.5 that I desperately need to open up on another computer, and don't have access to the original document.  Could someone please help me?

I'm sending you a link, but I'm confused by your comment that you don't have access to the original document. If you don't have the document, how can we convert it?  Perhaps you meant you don't have access to CS5.5.

I am also experiencing this same plugin error problem. However, I was told the document was created in CS4 and I have CS5. So I don't understand what the problem could be. Can anyone help me with this issue. I do have a dropbox account. Thanks

It is a CS5.5 document. I'll convert to .idml for you. but you should ask for a PDF so you know what it is supposed to look like.

    Hello folks,

Hate to say that I would love to get some assistance with this as well. Received a file this morning from the UK that was created in 5.5. I am on 5. I've attempted downloading a trial of 5.5 but am met with an error when the Adobe Download Assistant attempts to open the disk image it just downloaded.

    Here is my link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/w4imvlk356pw14q/Boots%20Template.indd

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

You should ask the people who supplied the file for the .idml...

I have emailed them, but since they're in the UK I won't get a reply of any kind for another 24 hours. I needed to work on the file today, but it's not looking like it will happen.

That's the way it goes sometimes.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

You guys are really great about helping each other out on this site! But can you address the issue below??

I got an .idml file from my client, but fonts and graphics are missing. Is there an easier way to get a file with all the links included? How do designers, who use plug-ins or newer versions of InDesign, get their files to press with out this issue of missing "shared content" and version problems?

For future, how should I ask to have the files sent to me?

    Thanks for you help.

    To press?

    They send PDFs

As Bob says, send PDF for final output, but if you need to edit the files, the person sending them to you must include the links and fonts. Easiest way to do that is File > Package... If you need .idml. make it from the packaged .indd and put it inthe same folder.

Thank you! That's what I figured, but I've never had to deal with files from another designer before. I've always just packaged for press and never had a problem. But PDF is definately the sure fire way for sending to press without glitches and I'll just ask them to include an .idml file when they package the job for me. Thanks again for the reply.

Peter (or anybody else who can help), I was trying to find an online solution for this common problem with CS5.5 in to CS 5.0 but I couldn't find any. I only got update for my home computer but cannot get update for CS5.5 in my work (long story). Could you please be so kind and turn it into IDML file?

    Hello,

I have a similar problem : I need to update several indd files made by my graphic designer (but I don't know which version he uses) and I can't open them with my CS4 version, because the Shared content" plugin is missing, as well as many others.

Let me know how I can send you these files (I don't want to put them in a Public folder) so that you could convert them, as I see you accept to do it for emergencies like mine.

    Thank you so much...

    Camille

See http://forums.adobe.com/message/4071273 -- it helps if you can say what version they were saved in.

As with the rest of these posts, I'm in a bind of sorts and it's a good weekend to have one too. I'm running CS4, version 6.0.6 and recieved a file from my graphic designer {not sure what she's running, but it's newer than mine] and I recieved the Shared Content Plug-In absent message. Wondering if you or anyone else would be willing to lend a hand to backsave for me and I'll shower you with good karma.

I have DropBox ready to roll ...

    Cheers

    Hello Pickory,

Would you (or anyone else) by any chance want some more karma? I need two CS5.5 files converted to being compatible with my CS4. I also have everything ready in dropbox.

    I'd be SUPER grateful!
