Need help installing plugins into Indsign

Jul 5, 2011 3:04 PM

I  click on the install button on the exchange website, then I get a  window going to my plugin folder in Indesign CS5 but there is the  selection button is gray out. Also I was asking if the upgrade from CS5  to CS5.5 is a free upgrade or you have to pay for it?

I wa also asking how to install the overlay creator panel into my CS5?

CS5.5 is not a free update unless you bought CS5 during the narrow time window just before CS5.5 came out.

Perhaps a screenshot of your extension installation problem would help, or explore the Extensions Manager.

Overlay Creator is part of the Folio Producer Tools.

I believe that dialog box is asking you to navigate to an extension that you have downloaded via a web browser, and then wish to install into InDesign. You are not supposed to try to select an extension, folder, or plugin that has previosly been installed into InDesign,

Do you want to install from the Exchange or do you want to install the Folio Builder tools?

Just double click the extension file (which BTW, is simply a glorified zip file).

You will need to export .idml files for your colleague to open in CS4. Any unsupported features you used will be lost, and some text may reflow, so there is a really good chance the appearance  of hte file will be differnt in CS4 than it is in CS5. It is much better for collaboration if you both use the same version. If that's not possible, at least send a PDF along so you both know what the other one thinks the job should look like.
