Thanks, Matthew, this works for me. I didn't have to boot the Mac, just made a folder in the Finder, deleted it and started LR. It then worked as it should.

Well this issue still exists in LR4. However it is gone in LR4.1(rc). Hope it stays in the  final version of 4.1.

This bug has been fixed in the Lightroom 4.1 release, available now.  To get Lightroom 4.1, go to the Help menu in Lightroom and select Check for Updates, then follow the prompts.  Or, you can download Lightroom 4.1 from adobe.com.

I just spent a couple hours with this, trying all the above to no avail. (LR 4.2 on Mac OSX.8.2)

First of all, I was getting the error on my local volume (hard drive home folder), not an external drive.

Second of all, I could delete some recent photos, but none from about a year ago or older.

I found a folder each from which I could and could not delete. From Finder, I did 'Get Info' and put them side by side. I noticed that in "Permissions", the my name was on the list for Read and Write on one, but not the other. The other, in place of my name, said "BAK", which I presume was from an old backup.

I added my name to the LR catalog folder permissions, then clicked the gear and chose "apply to enclosed items". That fixed it completely.

    Hope this helps somebody out!

The problem I was having with an external Volume in LR 4.3 was with OS X permissions.

    1. Select the Volume

    2. Get Info and unlock Sharing and Permissions

    3. Change Permissions to Read and Write

    4. From the Gears drop down choose "Apply to enclosed items..."

    5. Hit OK at the prompt

    6. Relock the Volume.

I am having the same problem as others have reported--I am on a new mac mini--with LR4.4--The problem only affects certain older folders that I have transferred from external drives.  I have changed the permissions to read and write to no avail.

I thought I would be smart and create a new folder--and move the files I cannot delete--no luck I cannot move them.

    Any ideas?

    I still have this problem.

LR 4.3, Mac OS 10.6.8, LR catalogue and photos on External HD

When I try to delete a file within Lightroom, it states that the external HD does not support trash. It then asks if I want to permanently delete it. When I select 'Yes' it still does not delete the file. So I'm unable to delete any files.

This occurred after I moved my Lightroom library and catalogue from one external HD to another (upgrade). To move the files, I followed Option One here: http://members.lightroomqueen.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/Vie w/1166/187/how-do-i-move-only-my-photos-to-another-hard-drive-leaving- the-catalog-where-it-is

I then followed the solution in 44 on this page to change Permissions of that volume to Read & Write, Ignore ownership on this volume and "Apply to enclosed items..."

Still unable to delete any files within LR.

I can delete files from the Ext HD in the Finder, no problem. But not from LR.
