For some reason the Tools menu has options in the CS5 that are not available in CS5.1 of bridge. Why is that? I'm also missing startup scripts that are discussed in the help files? How can I get the menu commands that are in CS5 into CS5.1?
I have attached screen shots of my issues. Bridge CS5 versus Bridge CS5.1
Any help would greatly be appreciated!
The missing menu items are actually extensions to Bridge… They are added to Bridge's standard menus via the start-up scripts… I don't have 5.5 so I can't say for sure why they are missing… Any hows here is what I would try in your situation… Locate the scripts folder for Bridge CS5 and CS5.5 these should be in file path Library/Application Support/Adobe/SomeSubFolder and 'copy' the missing scripts over (label them or whatever so you know whats what). Quit both apps then re-launch 5.5 you should get a dialog asking to accept… yup… If for some reason these no work then just dump them… Quit n re-launch to flush them out…
same problem, nothing seems to help.
If you only update PS to CS5.5 and not the rest of the suite it is likely they won't recognize each other.
You can have multiple versions of CS installed. You can have also multiple versions of PS open at the same time but you can only use one version of Bridge at the time.
The start up scripts for Bridge are placed in this Path:
computer (root level, not user account) / library/ application support/ Adobe /Start up Scripts CSxx Re: Different Menus in Bridge CS5 and Bridge CS 5.1.
Check the folder for CS5 and copy the start up scripts to your new version folder and try if that works.
Dear Omke,
Thanks for the advice but as I said before nothing seem to work :
first: I'm affraid there is no such thing as photoshop CS 5.5 :
"Photoshop users, rest easy—-there are no enhancements or new features in this update for Photoshop whatsoever, so Photoshop will remain at CS5, though there is a free patch so it will be able to connect to mobile apps that may be released in the future but just so ya know—-it is NOT a 5.5-level upgrade like the other CS5 products are getting." quote from the Adobe.com site.
I'm running Photoshop CS5 12.4.0 x 64 : as far as I know the latest photoshop version.
There is always just one version of bridge or photoshop open.
Bridge CS 5.1 came with InDesign 5.5. And InDesign 5.5 only seems to work with Bridge CS 5.1.
I already tried to copy the start up scripts for Bridge via computer (root level, not user account) / library/ application support/ Adobe /Bridge CS5/Startup Scripts but there seems to be nothing in that file so I revealed the hidden files on my Mac but nothing showed up....
Now I notice that you suggest another path : computer (root level, not user account) / library/ application support/ Adobe /Start up Scripts CSxx.
But I don't see any Start up Script file in that location.
So I'm stuck.
I need to switch from Bridge CS5 when working with Photoshop CS 5 to Bridge CS5.1 when working with InDesign CS5.5.
That is not what I paid 749,-€ for !!!
If this was a restaurant dish with a bug in it, I would send it right back to the kitchen and have the restaurant closed for bad hygenic conditions !

I agree, it is all a bit confusing with version numbers.
There has been a CS5 update called CS5.5. Inhere PS 5.1 and Bridge 5.1.
You probably made a small typo and do have PS 12.0.4 on your system. Bridge CS5.1 has version 4.1.5.11, PS 5.1 should provide you with 12.1.4. (it all sounds perfectly logic, ain't it...)
And indeed, the CS5.5 update for Bridge and PS did not have any significant changes other then the version number added with a 1 to my knowledge.
But you bought a part of the 5.5. suite and that does not seem able to communicate with the CS5 section. (also matches perfectly the strange strategy Adobe has for upgrading outside the Suite or language or OS that you already have).
Don't know what OS you are on, I'm using 10.6.8 and I don't have the path you describe, I do have a Bridge CS5 Extensions folder but there are no start up scripts. I also have the CS5 Design Premium suite installed, so maybe here is the difference?
What OS are you using and what other Adobe applications have you installed?
If you don't rely heavily on Bridge to reach for InDesign scripts you could choose to only use the CS5 version of Bridge (4.0.5.11) and change your indesign files to open by default in InDesign 5.5 using the filetype associations in the Bridge preferences.
And of course you can always contact Adobe customer support or if you did not bought it online with Adobe contact your software provider that sold you the Suite in the first place to help you solve this matter.
