I was wondering if you were working on the support of CSS 3D transforms.
When you target iOS and webkit browsers, you can take advantage of those 3D transforms
(even for 2D manipulations) and trigger hardware acceleration.
I've created a small JS library that allows 3D manipulation of HTML elements
with a syntax close to ActionScript. It is based on the "transfrom" CSS property,
using 3D operations scale3D translate3D and rotate3D. I thought you could be
insterested in the source, just to see how easy it is to use.
