Design conversion problem. Big bouncing rate.

Sep 5, 2011 12:25 AM

Hi,

I have this website:

http://www.chessfriends.com

It is online chess server. My problem is, that I am paying a lot of targeted ads, but even that those ads are targeted the bouncing rate is still hight. The goal of this landing page is to move 100% of users into next page, where users can play online chess. But I have about 30% bouncing rate on well targeted google ads. Can you tell me your opinion how to improve this landing page? Are there any design problems? What would you change?  After users come insite the average time spend on page is more than 30 minutes, so I suppose the inner part is more friendly for them. But I will be happy to hear some more ideas how to improve it. Thanks

    Hi.

Landing page is ok for me. I don't see any distracting things. If you have 30% bouncing rate - that's fairly normal. Most sites have 50% or more bounce. The simple answer is that people don't want to play chess / can't / don't want to register yet another account. You must assume that some number of clicks will never convert no matter what you'll do. If I would change something, maybe it would be some another way to enter playing, now it somehow resembles online casino or poker site. Maybe that's what turns people out of site.
