Max file size in Audition 3

Oct 17, 2011 10:07 AM

I'm trying to open a 26.5 hour long WAV file in Audition, but only the first 13 hours and 8 minutes show up. Does Audition have a file size limit? The WAV files I'm trying to open are about 375MB. Thanks for any help.

Audition doesn't, but wav files do - it's a format restriction caused by the fact that they only have a 32-bit address range. This gives an opened file size limit of 4GB. The files you are opening are clearly compressed files (so inherently they aren't wav files, even though they may be in a wav container), but when Audition opens them, they are automatically decompressed into Audition's native uncompressed wav file format, which expands them. With files like this, the best way to attempt to open them is in Multitrack view. This has a mechanism for artificially 'splitting' these large files, but still presenting them as one file. This usually works, but there are no guarantees.
