realtime hardware for cinemadng

Nov 11, 2011 1:02 PM

hi,

i have ikonoskop camera which records 1920x1080 prograssive CinemaDNG (RAW) files.To edit files i am using dng inporter and premiere pro cs5.5

but my problem is since cinemadng files are progressive frames it is not possible to edit without rendering files. First i have to render all files (which may take for 1-2 days for a typical music video raw shoots) then start to edit. but it is very time consuming and has risk factor (assume that our mac crashed after 2 days etc)

my configuration is;

2x2.4 Ghz quadcore mac pro

6gb ram

Blackmagic decklink extreme 3d

blackmagic design hdlink pro

nvidea 4800

nvidea 120 graphic card

do you think it is possible to edit in cinemadng files realtime in premiere pro? what kind of hardware do i need?

thanks in advance

    Not at this time.

    It's on our list of things to do, but I don't know when we'll get to it :-(

    I think the best thing you can do is work out a work flow from After Effects to Premier. If you have an AE project with all your DNG clips as seperate sequences you can do two things. Batch render too an editable low res proxy file. Then once you've fiished editing you can use Premiers replace footage command to swap out the sequences for the DNG files in your AE project. After that DaVinci resolve can grade and playback in real time.
