MS Excel 2010 copy and paste into Illustrator - please help

It used to be (before I was updated to Excel 2010), that I could copy a line chart from Excel into AI and the lines would come over as a singler vector line that I could further manipulate in AI.
Now however, the pasted line comes in as a vector path in the shape of a multidimensional line, as opposed to a single path.
Does anyone know how to fix this so that it pastes like it used to as a single vector path?
