Did you make an alias of the Ilustrator Application or did you move it out of the Illustrator Folder?

The only other waay I know that this will happen is if you hold the command and shift key down while launching Illustrator otherwise how are you launching Illustrator?

Press "f" a couple of times to toggle between the full-screen modes.

Also, consider deleting your Illustrator preferences.

What happens to the cursor when you hit any of these keys T V M (shortcuts for text tool, move tool, shape tool)

    The cursor changes appearance:

    Window Workspace>> Essentials

    Cursor does not change appearance

Run disk utility and fix permissions

Before you reinstall, delete your preferences as per the previous posts

    outlaw,

You may use the Cleaner Tool in connexion with reinstalling; that includes deleting the preferences:

    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html

But getting rid of them, maybe by moving the folder, may be enough.

I realize this is necro posting but I literally just had this happen to me. Opened up Illustrator and everything was gone, no way to bring the panels back up in the view menu or anything. I fixed it by opening and closing it several times and I opened Photoshop once and then opened Illustrator and everything was back. Not sure if it was opening and closing it repeatedly or if it was opening Photoshop. Just thought I'd post my solution in case anyone else has this problem.
