I am getting this message "Lightroom cannot use the catalog named "Lightroom 3 Catalog" because it is not writable and cannot be opened"

When I select "Choose a different catalog", there is only 1 choice and it does not work.

Help!!

There is a lock-file that should be deleted every time LR is closed. But - for unknown reasons - sometimes this delete doesn't happen and LR doesn't open.

In your OS (Mac Finder / Win Explorer) look at the files where the catalog resides. The catalog is the file with the ending <.lrcat>.

Now, when LR is not open if you see also a file called < ... lrcat.lock> delete this file. This file should not be present when LR is closed - but it should be present when LR is open.

If you don't know where to find the catalog, see here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/843/cpsid_84313.html

If this doesn't help, make sure that your catalog and/or the folder where it resides is not set to <read only>.

By default LR puts the catalog in the location that are shown on the website that I gave you in  my earlier post.

But if you deleted it, it won't be there.
