Completely disabling Contribute on a site

So I made the mistake a couple of days ago of trying to use Contribute as a sort of CMS for my site. I set it up, and it, in turn, enabled some sort of "checking in/checking out" system on my site which inexplicably (to me) locks files on my server or computer. I've abandoned it, and followed instructions on several forums: check in all the files and disable Contribute support in Dreamweaver via Sites>Manage Sites>Advanced>Contribute. I've done that, but files still appear locked in the file veiwer, which means no overwriting files if I want to save after modifying. All I want to do is to get the "normal" (default) system back and be done with it already.

Is there any way to do this?

As per my understanding your files got locked in the server and want to unlock it.

If you are using Contribute, browse the file location with .LCK extension (for example, www.abc.mypagelocked.htm.lck) and deleted the file.

If my understanding is wrong, please detail me the exact issue you are facing.
