New to photoshop

Dec 29, 2011 3:28 PM

I am new to photeshop and just purchased adobe photoshop elements 10 and premiere elements 10.  I was wondering how do I get the photos that are stored on my computer onto photoshop.

Organizer>File>Get Photos and Videos>From Files and Folders. The organizer doesn't make copies of your photos. It's just a database, so you just tell it where they are.

If you don't want to use organizer, in the Editor go to File>Open and choose the image you want to edit.

Can you explain what you mean "it's just a database".  Does Organizer, when it is importing files simply point to the file the content is in and use that information OR does it create a new database therefore using more storage space?

Sorry, newbies can be a pain, I guess.

    Thanks in advance.

A database is a collection of tables containing data.  One way to think of the tables is as an Excel spreadsheet.  When you "import" your photos into the database, their physical locations on your drive(s) is recorded in one of the spreadsheet cells.
