Fixing Terrible sounding audio Premiere CS5.5

Dec 30, 2011 8:18 PM

Hi,

A client of mine has downloaded some audio from the Internet and given it to me to use in an edit and it sounds terrible. Low quality, a little crackly, low base, sounding a little tinny.

Would anyone have some suggestions on how I would go about fixing this problem? I have the full CS5.5 suite.

Thank you and wishing you a happy New Year!!!

Well, I would start with Adobe Audition CS5.5 (accessing it from PPro's 'Edit w/Audition' in the right-click on the audio track) and tackle each of these problems in turn.

Ask the client if thats what he wants or can he supply perfect audio.

You wont be able to fix it what ever.

I would use what he supplied me with...and send him an invoice.

I would use that extra payment and hire a sound engineer

Richard Knight (30 years a sound supervisor)

    Garbage in, garbage out.

Let you client supply you with the original.

To post the audio file use something like RapidShire.

As has been mentioned, starting with good Audio is the key, but there are some things that can be done to "improve" some less than stellar Audio. This ARTICLE covers some of it.

The rec. to do the Audio work in Audition is a where I would start. However, while it's a great program, even it has limitations. At some point, you will be faced with "diminishing returns," on what can be done to improve the Audio vs how long it takes.

    Good luck,

    Hunt
