To continue connecting to your website, you must repair or remove its administrative settings

Jan 26, 2012 3:16 PM

Hello.

When trying to connect to my website, I'm getting a prompt saying the files appear to have been recently moved.....yadayada. I realise it's like this since we have changed to a new host since I see our old one there correct? OK-so my question is what happens after I click that button that says to remove the administrative settings for your website and continue connecting?

I've been told to update our website and I don't have a whole lot of knowledge about it. I do connect to it at work through ftp for uploading pix and access to cpanel but that's about it.

The person that did the site no longer works with me, but I know that he used Contribute3 (Macromedia) for at least some of the site, so I'm assuming the new Contribute will work.

I really don't want to screw things up clicking that button and somehow mess up our site.

Thanks for the help!

Jim

    Dear Jim,

Click on Yes to remove the administrative settings, will remove all you roles and adminitrative settings. The site will be like an unadministered site. This happens because you have moved to site to new host, the host name and the IP address will differ from the one saved in the cthubxxxxx.csi file inside _mm folder in the site.

Solution 1: Click Yes (All the adminitrative settings will be removed). And Administer the site again, create new roles and configure the role settings accordingly.

Solution 2: If you have access to the server, Open the cthubxxxxx.csi file inside _mm folder of your site and replace the old hostname and IP address with newer one. Then reconnect.

    Hope this solves your problem.

To get the IP address you can directly ping the server from cmd. I tried pinging www.liquidweb.com and got the IP as 209.59.159.10

Q: " I noticed on the cthubxxxxx.csi file it says macromedia_dreamweaver_hub. I assume that means the site was made with dreamweaver? I assume I will be able to edit with Contribute?"

Yes, You can edit the site using Contribute.

Create connection to the site and navigate to the .LCK of the home page. For example, if your home page is index.html, browse to index.html.lck

Then select the menu item, File-> Actions--> Delete Page.

This will solve the locked file problem.

Since contribute doesn't understand the .lck extension, this page will be displayed. Please go ahead and delete the page. Then you will gain the access to the Home page.

If your home page extension is .php, then browse to php.lck and delete the .LCK file.

Delete only the .lck (lock file), not the main page.

If possible share the home link with me, so i can let you know what needs to be browsed and deleted.

If you have trouble in editing http://www.liquidweb.com/index.html page, then browse to http://www.liquidweb.com/index.html.lck

Then choose, File-> Actions--> Delete Page.

This might be due to the Protect Script option enabled.

    1) Administer the site.

    2) Select the Role and Click Edit Role Settings...

    3) Select Editing category

    4) Uncheck "Protect Scripts, forms and spry widgets" option under Allow unrestricted editing

    5) Save the changes.
