Mac OSX – Cannot Set Reader 9 As Default Application Instead of Reader 10

Jan 27, 2012 7:43 AM

I have installed the latest versions of Acrobat Readers 9 and 10 on Mac OSX 10.7.2 Lion.

I have used several methods to try and set Reader 9.5 as the default application to open PDF files (using 'Get Info / Change All, Open With, and so on) but it always reverts to Acrobat 10 as the default application.  The only way to stop this is to move Acrobat 10 to the trash and then set Reader 9 as the default.  But as soon as I move Acrobat 10 back into the applications folder then the default opening application reverts to 10 again.

Does anyone know what is causing this behaviour and how to stop it, other than permanently deleting Acrobat Reader 10 ?

Why did you install 2 versions of Adobe Reader? You need only one version.

What did you use? Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat are two different products.

There are no products named "Adobe Acrobat Reader 9" or "Adobe Acrobat Reader 10". The names are "Adobe Reader 9" and "Adobe Reader X".
