Full width header/footer with centered content

Jan 31, 2012 8:00 AM

Thank you in advance to anyone who can answer this question.

I realize this is simple to all you pros out there but I’m a little lost with the following …

I’m trying to create a page that has a full width header and footer, but I’d like to have a two or three column content area that’s centered.  I know you know what I mean but this would be an example

So far I’ve been working with a Dreamweaver Template and found that If I make the page width 100% it solves the full width header and footer part, now I’d just like to be able to center the content.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Under the full width header, just put a centering container that is a fixed width.  Put all of your page's content in that container.  For example -

    <div id="header">This will be full width</header>

    <div id="content" style="width:980px;margin:0 auto;">This will be 980px wide and centering</div>

    <div id="footer">This will be a full width footer</div>
