Photoshop "Save As" problem. Extensions .jpg not automatically added.

Can someone please give me a tip?

My Old computer broke down and I bought a new one.

 

In the past when I selected "Save As" and then selected the file type ("Format" pull down menu)  JPG I only had to type in the name and Photoshop added automatically ".jpg"

 

On the new computer it doesnt work any more.

 

Now I select "Save As"....file Type JPG....I give it a name and ....Photoshop saves it without extension

so later It cant be seen when I want to open the file.

 

What happened?

 

My System is Windows 7 Home Premium as my old system.

    Have you changed the Explorer Folder Options to reveal file extensions?  That's not the default.

    When you add "." to your filenames windows considers everything after the last dot to be the extension of your file and since you already have an extension it doesn't automatically add one so when working with such files you'll have to add the extension manually. To fix the images without a proper extension simply rename those files and add .jpg to the end.

    Yes, Windows is adjusted to display the extension.

     

     

    Zeno, I dont add anything t the file name.

    Last time with Photoshop on my acer computer i typed in the file name and Photoshop aded automatically .[dot]jpg

    Photoshop on my new dell computer doesnt do that.

    Doesn't matter if you didn't add them, if the filename already had dots some to begin with then that's what's going to happen. Also, changing folders should automatically change the stuff after the last dot to ".jpg"

    Perhaps rather than assuming we should ask what, specifically, is one of the file names being chosen?

    I'm assuming because each and every such question that i've encountered was caused by dots in the filename :)

    Yea, I think all those dots in a Watche's Serial number were the problem.
