It appears that the Shockwave 11.6.4.634 MSI that was released yesterday does not have the 10.* compatibility components. It does appear that updated compatibility components were released (10.4.1.36 - this matches the progression in release numbers observed over the past two and half years since 11.5.1.601/10.4.1.26 was released). This is the first MSI release since 11.* was released that doesn't have the 10.* compatibility components included. It does not appear that there is any sanctioned method for automated deployment of the 10.4.1.26 compatibility components to machines.
Non-Administrative users can't install the compatibility components themselves (at least under XP), so they have no way of accessing sites that serve up 10.* content (see
ColchesterRGS: Thanks for letting me (and anyone else following this thread) know!
I apologize for the delay in acknowledging - I've been getting this new version deployed to the machines I manage and fighting other fires.
Adobe: Thanks (not!) for the comprehensive communications strategy to ensure we would know about this course change and then reversal. ![]()
Seriously, Adobe does do a better job than Apple (I have a boycott going against Apple due to their complete and total refusal to provide any sort of meaningful support for deployment and management of QuickTime/iTunes - neither will be installed on any machine for which I have any degree of responsibility), but as workstation adminstrators we shouldn't have to have the skills of an intelligence analyst to figure out what is going on inside the hive and shouldn't have to be poking around inside MSIs to figure out what's being shipped! It's damn lonely out here - the forward channel from Adobe to us is pretty sparse, and the back channel seems non-existent.
