PSE 9 Fit Screen problem suddenly appeared

I have been using PSE 9 for over a year and today something strange has started happening that never happened before.  When I open a photo in PSE it appears rather small, instead of mostly filling the workspace as before today.  If I click on Fit Screen nothing happens.  If I use the Zoom Tool I can enlarge the photo to mostly fill the workspace.  Until today when I opened a photo PSE would present an image that mostly filled the workspace.  If for any reason I needed to make it do so I could click on Fill Screen.  Now both no longer work.  Does anyone know why this problem appeared suddenly and how I can fix it?

When PSE starts behaving strangely, the first thing to try is re-setting the Preferences:  Hold down the Ctrl+Alt+Shift keys when launching PSE's Editor, and answer "Yes" to delete the Preferences.  They will be re-built.

Did you restart the computer after rebuilding the Preferences?

I'm also running Win7 x64 Home Premium under a standard user account (PSE10), and I don't get the UAC prompt.

I don't understand what you mean about the "Fill Screen button", but if you haven't updated the video drivers or made any other system changes, then there are a couple of other things to try:

    1. Use a reputable anti-virus program to do a full system scan.
    2. Create a new standard user account, and see if PSE works under that account.

Ah, now I see that those buttons are in the Options Bar for the Zoom tool.  These are my options for the tool (I'm using tabbed documents):

    zoom settings.png

You can use that down arrow to reset the tool.

I don't have any other suggestions, other than ensuring you're using the default, smaller, 100% screen font size in Windows and that your display is set correctly.  Those are just shots in the dark, though....
