Changing object states in multiple pages

Hi,

I've figured out how to use a button to switch states of an object within a single page, but now I want to do so across multiple pages. For example:

  • Page 1 has object A, with state 1 and state 2. Page 2 has object B, with state 1 and state 2. Page 3 has object C, with state 1 and state 2. And so on. State 1 is the default for these objects. So, when navigating from page to page, the user sees state 1 of every object.
  • Now I have a button that switches the state of object A to state 2, object B to state 2, object C to state 2, etc... The desired effect is, when the user navigates from page to page, he only sees state 2 of every object.

Is this possible to accomplish?

Thanks in advance.

No, InDesign doesn't let you do that. Buttons can link only to MSOs on the current page. (Or, if the button is in an MSO, it can link only to that MSO.)

@Bob – to be precise: buttons can only link to MSOs on the current spread, which will work  accross pages in a way for swf-export: you'll end up with one big "stage" (Flash terminology) in swf.

But since spreads are not allowed in building folios, we are out of luck here.

I tried to single out pages on a spread with the "Page"-tool, but to no avail, the limitation for building folios is remaining. No spreads allowed…

See my screenshot, where the buttons (on page 2, normal state "red", show state "green") control the MSO (on page 1):

However, it would be nice, if singled out pages in spreads would be allowed for folios.
Then we could link MSO behaviour on a maximum of up to 10 pages (limitation for spreads).
