Will Adobe include an "Update All Folios" in a future release of Folio Builder?

Feb 28, 2012 10:27 AM

Please include an "Update All Folios" option in the next release of Folio Builder. It will save a lot of time instead of having to manually update each article when global changes are needed.

Oh man, I hear you! I'm working to get this to happen, but I'm not sure if we can get it done in time for the next release.

Do you think this will be part of v24?

I'm currently doing an update to my app (that has over 70 folios) to take avantage of the features in v23 & man is this a pain in the butt.

To add to the wish list...

    - A preferance "make vector default". I'm currently changing all my image states to vector

    - An option to make buttons (with rollovers) vector as well

Did you mean 'update all articles'? The webinar last month suggested that an 'update all folios' function is planned for the next release (or was it the one after?). If you do mean 'update all folios', I doubt that's going to happen.

We're planning on implementing multi-select update in folio builder panel. You'll be able to select more than one article at a time, say update, and we'll update all the selected articles.

You shouldn't be converting image states to vector unless the states consist of InDesign live text. If your image states are images you'll wind up with a larger file size (we have to generate a low-res thumbnail image), and the user experience isn't as good as raster: the images will resolve like PDFs do, with a short period where they are somewhat grainy. I conciously made the default for slideshows be raster for this reason.

    Thanks for the update!

I should have said object states, not image states. For pop up text.

    Thanks

Are you creating a single edition publication? Or are you doing multi-issue folios? If you're doing multi-issue, are you planning on uploading separate SD and HD renditions? Or are you trying to do a single rendition for both devices?

    Thanks!

Single edition, with a single rendition for both.

Got it. Yes, I can see how that would be annoying

If you are having to update all or even most of the articles in a folio, then create the xml sidecar. then delete the folio and re-import, and then re-import the side car to re-order everything. It can be quite time consuming to create the sidecar, though Johaness created a feature that is supposed to make it easier. However I can't wait for being able to update a few articles at once, that will save a lot of time. Plus if there could be some kind of icon that shows an article needs to be updated; ie the indesign has been more recently updated than the article itself, -- that would be fantastic.

Don't know how many times I forget if I've updated an article or not (I'm not the most methodical person in the world!)

    cheers

    Alistair

I can more than agree for the update all function. But I'm facing an issue with the update function which is well, not really a problem from DPS itself:

I'm working mainly on two locations and soon on two different iOS and my sources are in my Dropbox. As you can guess, the path isn't the same on two different computers and make the switch from one computer to another a real pain.. especially when you need to upload your article even if it is still strictly the same because the path changed and you had to relink them.

Sorry to be a little bit off topic even if I think it shoud have some kind of relative path to make the updates easier !

Update All Articles might make it into v24.

No, it won't. However multi select of articles and updating them might make it in.

Much more useful to multi select and update, than to just update all. in my opinion! update all can be fairly simply done if sidecar is used properly.
