I don't know if I'm in the right place. Please redirect me if I'm not. I have a new Mac Pro 6 core with Lion since Feb 2012 and bought the Adobe Creative Suite 5.5.
Today I got a pop up window saying there was an update for Flash and I downloaded it successfully according to the process communication. Later I went into my checking account on line and made a house payment.
Not 20 minutes later on Yahoo home page a topic came up about the Mac "Flashback" virus which said earlier versions of the Malware were delivered from phony Flash downloads.
I go into my applications and get info on Flash CS5.5 and it doesn't give me a version....just the total bytes and says it was "modified today". Does that mean I don't have to worry that it could have been anything connected with the virus talked about in the article? The fact that there was an actual update?
Sorry.... to my above question I can add that the version now showing is 22.214.171.1245. Is that the latest version, and if Flash is showing to have been updated today I should have nothing to worry about? That's what I'm thinking but the coincidence of updating, then going on line into my checking and mortgage accounts, and then 20 minutes later reading about a malware attack from phony Flash updates really worried me.
When you say Flash are you talking about the Flash Professional program included as part of Creative Suite 5.5 or the Flash Player browser plug in, which does use a popup window as a prompt to update? They are not the same things at all.
I'm reading your post as if you received a prompt to update the Flash Player but then checked the version of Flash Professional in CS5.5 - they are not connected in any way. You can have the Flash Player installed (to view Flash content in a browser) without having any form of Creative Suite.
Yes you are probably correct, yachts99. Flash Pro is not something I use. I am really concerned now. Trying to call Adobe is next to impossible with the voice mail and wait.
What's confusing is that the Flash Pro shows its created date as of when my Mac Pro was put together at Other World Computing, 2/2/12. But then it says "Modified" yesterday at approximately the time this all happened. But all ll I have done is go into the applications and right click on it which gives me this information plus total bytes info on my boot drive. And I tried double clicking which shows the version as 126.96.36.1995 as it opens.
When I do a google search on what is current Flash Player version I get the information I have the current version for Mac with Lion 188.8.131.52.228
So sorry I guess I am in the very wrong place, but from what I have described as my concerns does anyone have any suggestions to put me at ease? As mentioned first thing coincidentally I did after the supposed (or real) update is go online into my checking / credit card site with B of A and then my mortgage provider to make a payment from checking account.
