AVI convertor to get proper codex for use on Premeire Elements 10

This is my first time using Premiere Elements 10. After many hours of wondering why my video production was causing my video clips to jerk / flutter,etc. I was told that my video camera was not compatable to Adobes Elements 10 software.

I was then told that I could get a program off the internet that would allow me to convert my video to a certain Codex that Adobe could read.

I am in great need of this as I am trying to do a production before the end of the month.

My video camera is a Canon ZR50 MC Digital Video camcorder. It uses the mini DV tapes and is AVI format.

Any help on this would be appreciated.

    Paul,

     

    Your camera should actually produce the ultimate files to edit in PrE. There should be no CODEC issues, because PrE can Capture your miniDV tape over FireWire 400 (IEEE-1394a, or iLink), and produce DV-AVI files w/ Audio @ 48KHz 16-bit. That is as good as it gets.

     

    Your camera does not record to a file, per se, but just records data, digitally, to the tape. I have the Canon ZR60 MC, and the tapes Capture perfectly into PrE.

     

    Good luck, and please let us know if you have any problem doing the Capture over FW.

    More info for you.

     

    I did copy all my video from my video camera to elements. I took a few clips

    of video and used a simple dissolve icon. When played back it showed the

    first clip started to hesitate and as the dissolve went threw, the remainder

    of the second clip became jerking,kind of like stop and go.

     

    I spent hours  with a tech from Adobe who did stuff I really didn't know

    why. He said that my video wasn't clear enough or bright enough and that is

    why it wouldn't work. My clips are clear and bright though. Then he played

    these two clips on Windows media and Quick time. We seemed to have a great

    misunderstanding of what we both saw. My wife and I saw these clips play

    fine on both players. Then he had me do a simple project using to clips. He

    must have been able to see it because when I did it this time both video

    clips where doing that jumping/jerking/stop and go effect. No sinc. With

    further propting he finally sain that my camera did not match with Premeire

    Elements 10. and that was that. I called back to regular support and only

    because I was so unset did he suggest that I needed to convert a codex or

    whatever, within my AVI format so it would offer detection to Adobes

    software.

     

    So with that said I don't know what to do.

     

    The video loaded okay on Premeire but after starting a project and adding

    effects things started to go wrong. And also when I got over 7 frames the

    screneline arrow wouldn't let me move it back far enough to view everything.

     

     

    What''s your take on this?

    How? Describe your hadware and your EXACT steps to get video from camera to computer

    Hooked up camera with DV cord direct from camera to my PC. I am using XP

    pro.

     

    I went to E the Elements 10 location where you select the knid of copy

    process. I selected"from DV camera. It them recognized it and started coping

    my videos. Same way I have done it in the past but with a different video

    software.

    Report back with the codec details of your file, use the programs below... a screen shot works well to SHOW people what you are doing

    If you have a red line over the timeline after importing a video and before adding any effects... your project is wrong for your video... read above about codecs

    .

    Once you know exactly what it is you are editing, report back with that information... and your project setting, and if there is a red line above the video in the timeline, which indicates a mismatch between video and project

    Now that you mention the red line, I did see that when I was editing.

     

    So I will do my best to check out these links and hope I understand them.

    Paul,

     

    John T's links should be very useful to get a background on Video files. Most are written "from the ground up," but if there is anything, that you do not understand, or does not make sense to you, please do not hesitate to ask questions. Video seems rather simple for simple playback, but editing it, has a lot of details that must be addressed. There are so very many aspects, and all can effect how easily the process is completed - it can really interfere with the "fun quotent," but is necessary.

     

    Please let us know a bit more info (those links contain suggestions for some utilities, that will get you ALL of the necessary info) about the Video files.

    Hi John,

     

    I read all the links you gave me and got a little confused.

     

    And yes I do have red lines at the effects part, etc.

     

    I guess my main question is, now what do I do?

     

    I've downloaded the G spot and the FFD Show to my desktop.

     

     

     

    I would assume, but may be wrong, that I need to delete everything from

    Premeire Elements 10 ?

     

    Then how does this work as far as doing my coping again?

     

    Do I run these two programs, on my PC ,before hooking up my camera again?

     

    My confusion is, do I have to download everything to one of these other

    programs before I can copy it to Elements or does it do the changing for me

    Bill,

     

    As with others helping me I have read the links and tried to understand the.

     

    And yes there are Red lines when I do the effects. That part I understand

    now

     

    So,My question is, what are the steps I need to do to get this working .?.

     

    Please clarify my moves. I downloaded Gspot and the codec pack.

     

    So do I run one or both programs before I start to copy my videos to

    Elements10 or do I have to put them elsewhere before I copy?

     

    It sounds like I have to clear everything off of Adobe Element before I

    start again,correct?

    If you are doing the Capture from a miniDV tape camera, via FireWire (IEEE-1394a, or iLink), in PrE, then you do not need any other program. You will also not need to convert anythiing, as PrE will Capture the tape into a DV-AVI file.

     

    When you drag those Clips onto the Timeline in a DV Project (NTSC, or PAL, depending on where you live, and which TV mode your camera shot in), there should be no red line above the Clip.

     

    Now, if you add/adjust an Effect, or add any form of overlay, such as a PiP, Title, Transition, etc., red lines will appear above that Clip, or, that portion of the Clip, that is affected. That is normal.

    !!! DANGER, DANGER !!!

     

    Some codec packs will make your computer so messed up that you will have to format your hard drive and install everything fresh

     

    Do not install codec packs before asking here about the specific download

    Okay, I understand about the red line. Appreciate that.

     

    Yes I am capturing my miniDV with a fireWire.

     

    But that doesn't get me to the point where my videos start acting up with

    the effects..

     

    I'll read that point on rendering again. I guess I don't quite understand it

    yet.

    To capture from your mini DV directly to PRE ensure that, when you start a project, you select the appropriate DV Setting (NTSC/PAL Standard/Widescreen). You must do this before adding any media as you cannot change a project setting after creating the project.

    If you download a codec pack... ask here before you install

     

    For instance... some people have had to format their boot drive and install everything fresh (Windows and all software) after installing the K-lite codec pack

    Okay. I feel a little hesitant about downloading this pack because I may

    have to reformat.

     

    This is more than I bargained for. I'm not that techy about some of this

    stuff.

     

    I'm going to start over with my Dv copy and make sure it was copied right.

    Hi John,

    I guess I was somehow shout out from this response for whatever reason.

    I'm sorry for being late but I discovered that my issues fixed themselves after I started usint the Rendering selection. Everything seems to be working now. I will finish this project tomorror and then burn it on a DVD. Wish me luck and I will lwt you know how it went.

    Sorry to be late.Thanks for your help.

    What I have discocered is that anything that doesn't run smooth, and shows the Red line above, I go and select Rendering. This seems to be correcting my issues. So I hope that when it comes time to burn a DVD thing will go good.

    Hi Bill,

    As I have told the others, I have forgotten all this codex stuff and have been using the Rendering selection on anything that didn't run smooth. So I hope the final part,which is the DVD burn, will go good.
