    try maintainAspectRatio='false'. i thought you might loss quality. what flex framework are you using?

    flex 3.x Or Flex 4.x.

    you have to enable bitmap smooth to maintain quality.

    in flashbuilder 4.5 you can use flex 3.x / flex 4.x SDKs.

    what is your flex SDK.

    If you are not clear about this. are you using

    <s:

    tag in your app (Spark components). if so, you can use latest spark image component.

    <s:Image id="bug" source="assets/images/bug-img.jpg" width="100" smooth="true"   />

    really funny image. gave some to laugh.

    mention height as well. the below code works for me.

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

    <s:Application xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"

                   xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"

                   xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx">

        <fx:Declarations>

            <!-- Place non-visual elements (e.g., services, value objects) here -->

        </fx:Declarations>

        <s:Image id="bug" source="bug-img.jpg" width="100" height="100" smooth="true"   />

    </s:Application>

    But it is not really good idea to display that big image.
