Adobe Captivate freezes when I try to save, delete a screen, import a slide, etc...

Apr 16, 2012 10:13 AM

Hi all,

Big problem here. I am using Cap 5.5...things were working relatively fine. Tried to import one PPT slide into a small 15 screen project and it froze. I can only get out through the Task Mgr (CTRL + ALT + DEL and delete task). I tried clearing the cache under preferences but the YES button freezes - the window just stays open!

Same thing happens when I do most anything now, delete a screen, publish...seems like anytime a pop-up window appears with info or instruction Captivate freezes and none of the buttons to exit/cancel work. I can't save or do any work.

What can be the problem? I am using Windows 7.

Thanks so much! S

Are you starting Captivate as an Administrator? Are you working on a network, can you check that your Captivate files are on your PC and not on a network drive?

    Hello,

Captivate doesn't like having files on a network drive at all. You have to be aware of that.

Right-click the shortcut to start Captivate and choose 'Run as administrator'. You do not need full administrator rights for that. You can also change this permanently, by choosing Properties in the right-click meny, than on the Shortcut tab choose Advanced button and check 'Run as administrator.

Another possibility.  Were you by any chance using a multiple monitor setup before and now you're using a single monitor or a different multi-monitor setup?

If so, your 'unresponsive' Captivate might actually be due to this.  You cannot see another modal dialog that has opened because it's opening off screen (where Captivate thinks the monitor is located).

To test if this is the issue, next time it goes unresponsive, hit the Escape key to see if you get back control.
