Fill an object by Area

I swear at some point I saw a tutorial on how to fill an object (circle, rectangle, or irregular object/shape) by it's area. Such as, I want to fill the object 70%, and it would fill 70% of the area inside that object.

 

I have searched everywhere to try to find that tutorial or anything relating to it. But I have been unsuccessful. I thought it to be a new feature in Illustrator CS5, but still have no been able to find anything on it.

 

Does anyone have any idea if this is a real feature or even achievable?

 

I quite possibly could have dreamt it...

    Copy yousr stroked object, and paste in front

    Fill

    Then scale 70% in transform palette ( set the reference point appropriately, click the chain so both width and height scael, add * .7 after width or height, then hit enter)

    ... or a nightmare.

     

    It is achievable, though, with more or less effort, depending on the shape and the desired way of filling, including:

     

    A) Top/bottom/right/left/skewed/centre/perimeter/wherever,

    B) Pie chart/star/pin/stripe style, etc,

    C) Straight/rounded/wavy/zigzag, etc,

    D) Etc.

    Mike,

     

    0.7 for both W and H would yield 49%.

     

    70% at the centre or somewhere inside (just one of the vast number of options, which might put some of the filled area outside the path in some cases) would require 0.83666 for both W and H.

    I want to fill the object 70%

    What does that mean?

     

    You want a solid fit that spans 70% of the object's height? Width? From the top, bottom, middle?

    Fill it with a uniform pattern that covers 70% of its area, like a 70% tint screen?

     

    There's a kazillion ways to guess at what you're trying to describe. Show a sketch or something.

    Do you mean something like this?

    If so you use the Effect>Path>Offset path and keep giving it negative values like -20pts, -30pts etc

    If you mean like this it is done with a blend

    Or a Effect>Distort and Transform>Transform with a setting of 70% for both scale values and the number of copies

    To me it looks about 54% water and 16% filled with fish.
