How do you edit a conditional text layer without changing every layer?

Having problems changing a specific conditional text layer in InCopy, I have about 60 layers and I have turned all of the eye balls of and just the one layer I would like to change is on. Every time I go and change the text it deletes that word and changes it to what I want it changed to, but it also deletes the previous from the other layers that it was connected to.

For example:

I have the word College that needs to be changed to School on 1 of the 60 layers, but I still need the word College to show up on the other layers.

Help!!!
