Capture thumbnail with transparency (Touch / Companion App SDK)

Is there any way for a Photoshop companion app to retrieve an image that includes transparency information?  The documentation for sendDocumentThumbnailToNetworkClient says it only supports two formats: JPEG (which has no alpha support), and Pixmap (described as "RGB with no transparency info").  It seems like thumbnails are always composited on a solid white background.  Images with transparency are incredibly common in Photoshop... is there really no support for them in the Touch SDK??  If anyone knows of any tricks to make this work, I'd be much obliged.
