Synchronizing LR4 and PSE10 catalogs?

After installing LR4 I imported the PSE10 catalog. No problems. But when I later import more pictures into PSE - is it possible to add these pictures automatically to the LR catalog without importing the pictures once more? Or do I have to import the same pictures once more into LR and therefore have to copies of each new picture in two different folders - one for PSE and one for LR? So far I don't think the auto import will help, because as far as I understand 1)all the new pictures that PSE saved then will be moved to another folder and therefore will be missing afterwards, and 2)auto import will not monitor subfolders. ØØ

    There is no way to synchronize two different catalogs (one in PSE and one in LR) other than by tedious and repeated manual effort.

     

    It is not worth the effort, in my opinion, to use two different catalog/organizers. Not only is it a lot of work, but there are a gazillion opportunities to screw things up, and wind up with catalogs out of sync. Furthermore, I simply don't see any benefit to using two different organizers. Lot's of work with no benefit? I don't like the sound of that. Pick one organizer and use that (and in my opinion, there is close to zero reason to pick the PSE Organizer in this case, if you have to pick one, you pick LR)

    Thanks for you response! I was afraid of that it was difficult to synchronize the two catalogs. But people have different needs, and I have used use PSE since version 2 to save, edit and organize my pictures, and only use LR a little. Maybe I should switch to

    LR as my primary organizer and editor. ØØ

    I went through the same process. Used PSE since version 3 to manage my images. I installed the LR4 demo a few weeks ago and worked with it for a while. I realized that for what i am doing LR is a much better tool than PSE. I need an organizer, development tools (exposure adjustment, sharpening, noise reduction), and output management. I did not really use much of the pixel level tools PSE offers.

    I think the organizer in LR is way better, and in particular if i start with raw image files adjustments in LR are much easier to do. I did not do a lot of printing or web publishing but it seems to work nicely (printed a few pictures and it worked well; likewise posting a collection on Flickr was very easy).

     

    To you question and as dj_paige already said it is not possible to synchronize LR and PSE catalogs automatically. It is best to use the LR catalog. If you need to do any further editing in PSE you can use "Edit in PSE" from LR.
