Canon G12 4:3 Raws import to LR at 3:2

1. Shot Raw+jpeg captures at 4:3 camera setting

2. For the Cr2 (not the jpeg) EXIF Tool shows EXIF image W&H as 3,648 x 2,736 (4:3)

3. Cr2 opens in Irfanview at 4:3 aspect ratio, exif reads full 3,648 x 2,736 (4:3)

4. Cr2 imports into LR "cropped" per se to 3,648 x 2,432 (3:2)

Tried in LR 3.3, also LR RC 4.1 w/ ACR 7.0

I want to be able to work with the full image data in Lightroom.

Thanks for any help.

If you've set the aspect ratio in-camera to 3:2, LR will respect that even in the raw data.  Was your JPEG 3:2?

I don't see how that's possible since the G12 has been out for a long time and no one else has reported it.  If you have a problem image, I suggest you upload it.  If this is happening to all your images, something is weird somewhere.

Okay, so it was set to 3:2 in-camera, and yout tried to use DPP to re-save the metadata so you could access it in LR?  If that didn't work, my only suggestion other than to wait for new functionality it to do a search for "DNG recover edges".

In another forum someone reported that it is possible to reset a G12 CR2 to 4:3 with the following exiftool command:

    exiftool -AspectRatio=4:3 -CroppedImageWidth=3648 -CroppedImageHeight=2736 IMG_nnnn.CR2

Note: Make a backup of the original file! Modifying the metadata of raws is inherently dangerous (although exiftool is quite reliable).

P.S. There are two problem reports in the feedback forum on this. I made a proposal how to better handle the in-camera crop settings here: http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/lightroom_4_1_rc _trouble_with_canon_5d_mark_iii_aspect_ratio
