Can I open Audition 1.5 sessions in CS5.5

Is it possible to open up my old Audition 1.5 sessions in CS5.5 and carry on working on them? I have been using v1.5 for ages on an older PC and have just upgraded to a new PC and thought it was time to upgrade to CS5.5. I have an old client coming in on Monday and we'd like to carry on with an old project we multitracked in 1.5 last year - but I want to use my new PC!!

Not directly...but this forums very own Suite Spot has written a nifty utility that will convert old .ses files to .sesx files.  It's free to download (though a donation would be appreciated, I'm sure).  I've recently used it a fair bit (my son sent me a pile of sessions to mix for him and he's on 1.5) and works well.

You can download it here:  http://www.aatranslator.com.au/ses2sesx.html

A lot of effort has gone into converting the internal fx from AA1.5, 2 and 3 to CS5.5 - there were some fx (I can't think which off the top of my head) which either didn't exist in CS5.5 or were so different that it made no sense to convert but most came across just fine.

Try it out and see - your original ses file remains unchanged.

Should you find a problem with the conversion then don't hesitate to contact me preferably via an email through the aatranslator website

Unfortunately Dynamic Processing was one of the fx which I wasn't able to convert.  From memory, the internal implementation of the CS5.5 version was dramatically different such that the numbers/settings from one made no sense in the other.

    Edit:

I've been relooking at this fx in AA1.5 and maybe I know more than I did when I started but I'm pretty sure I can get this converted - stay tuned

Ok I have now got the Dynamics Processing fx from AA1.5 converting to CS5.5 (it has only taken 2 days).

I'll catch some sleep and then see if I can now convert the AA2/3 version

This mod will be available in the next release sonn after I get hold of CS6

    sigh........

Okay - AA3 version of Dynamics Processing now converts to CS5.5  (I assume so does the AA2 version) but further testing to be done (thanks John Lundsten).

I'm now going to search for part of my missing weekend and my missing life ;-)

It would have taken me a year, even if I'd known how to do it.  Well done.

Maybe a hybrid...a case of "obsessive compulsive dedication"?

    Thanks guys - LOL

I would have been finished sooner but you know how much the Adobe devs love a joke - they switched the "Level Detector - Attack Time" parameter with the "Gain Processor - Attack Time" and the "Level Detector - Release Time" with the "Gain Processor - Release Time".

You have no idea how much that made me laugh - I had to waste 20 minutes looking for some needle and thread just to stitch my sides up - LOL

    These things happen ;-)

    Give it a rest.

It's all good - I'm off the ses2sesx for a little while - now quietly sipping a couple of bourbons while I contemplate attacking FXP X (fcpxml) conversions ;-)
