Question about getting full CS5 illustrator

I bought illustator CS5 about three months ago, without knowing it's a upgrade. I don't own any of the earlier versions of illustator so I install it as a trial.

 

My trial expired awhile back ago and it said I can buy the serial number to unlock the full version, but do I still need the serial key from the earlier versions of illustator?
