Why is Bridge CS5.1 showing same .nef file twice?

May 3, 2012 6:10 AM

I just upgraded from CS3 ti CS5.1 last month and since then Bridge will display a few of the .nef files I am working on twice. It seems to be completely at random, a folder with a few hundered .nef files will have 5-10 files that are showing twice. The file names are exactly the same and when you do something to one it does the same thing to the other one. So, I can't delete one of them without deleting both of them. It pulls them into Camera Raw as two seperate files also, still with the same name. It is not duplicating the file on my hard drive when I look at in explorer, just showing up twice in Bridge. Once I have saved them all to jpg to a different folder, I have to go in and delete the jpg duplicates it made. When I first load my .nef files into Bridge everything is good but as I am working on them in Camera Raw these duplicates start apearing and I can't seem to understand why. Running Windows. I have googled the heck out of this and can't seem to find others with this issue.

Can you specify what you do in Camera Raw?

What are your settings for files, do you just open them or do you save them.

Are both files .nef or is one of them jpeg?

Have you tried to use the refresh button (menu view/ refresh or F5 function key) and also tried to purge the cache for the folder they start showing (menu tools/cache/purge cache for folder)

I wonder why it is doing that in the first place. I've been using CS3 for years, working through a few thousand files a week and never had the issue.

You must have been very lucky with that, I had many issues with CS3 and needed to delete the complete cache and prefs every once in about 6 weeks to start again from scratch...

However, Bridge is my favorite file manager but I have to admit it can be very mysterious also. Sometimes no problems for a long time, sometimes many troubles after each other.

First aid for your issue with strange thumbs is always purge cache, first option cache for folder, second purge complete cache (preferences) and last option delete the whole cache file manually and start rebuilding cache from scratch.

And other strange behavior out of the blue is often solved by restarting Bridge holding down option (Mac) or control (Win) and choose reset preferences.

It sometimes can be a PITA but besides that it is a very useful application

When you choose export cache to folders you have two caches.  THe central cache and the one in the folders.

The only was to purge the folder cache is to go to Tools/chache/purge cache for xxxx folder.  This will clear both caches.
