I want to continue playing the video, even though I move focus to my browser.

Premiere automatically stops playing the video immediately after I switch my focus to Google Chrome, and really any other window. Any way to disable this "feature"?

Yep, upgrade to CS6, which is the first version that allows you to do this.

Just curious...why is it a "crucial feature" to be able to use a browser while you are editing?

    >cheap graphics card that can't do it very quickly

As far as I know, the graphics card has almost nothing to do with exporting... only timeline playback

If you don't want to upgrade to CS6... export and use a media player that will run in the background
