Startup problems using NetConnection and NetStream to FMS

Hi there,

unfortunately I'm a noob at Director and my task is to build a simple 2-people-video chat. I'm using Director 11.5, Windows 7 and Flash Media Server 3 (well, not sure about the version, but an old one).

I found out that I can use a NetConnection-object in Director to connect to the server. But my only information source is the user manual:

http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Director/11.5/UsingScripting/WSc3ff6d0ea77859461172e0811d50262 762-7f24.html

There only are some single code lines without any details. So my code looks like this until now --- I didn't replace any of the sample code, just copied all I would like to use somehow.

  myNetConObject = sprite(1).newObject("NetConnection")
  myStream = sprite(1).newObject("NetStream", myNetConObject)
  myStream.attachVideo(source)
  myStream.attachAudio(source)
  mystream.publish(whatToPublish)
  mystream.play(whatToPlay)

The manual unfortunately does NOT tell me HOW I can give the parameters, for example the source of a camera video. Has it to be the installation URL of the camera? Has it to be the name of the camera? Do I have to set up an "source" object somehow and attach a camera to that? Same thing with the micro.

Next: what is "whatToPublish" and "whatToPlay"? Shall it be the attached video (and how shall I name that)? Shall it be just "video"? (for publidhing.) Shall it be an url for play?

Also: how do I get logged in with a user name and how can I play a stream of another user?

Somehow I'm very frustrated about the help documents... These example lines didn't help me, because they're not giving any specification what parameters really are needed and such things.

Can someone help me please? I'd also be glad about links to tutorials or other forum questions about that. Didn't find any myself.

Thanks in advance fr your help and hints!

Jana

Triggering keyDown while commandDown in OSX

The problem is that in OSX the command key blocks the keyDown event in Director so instead of the OSX convention of command-c I have to instead use control-c. I can test the key events in a frame script and verify the _key.commandDown flag but the normal keyDown event is never triggered while the command key is pressed. Is there some workaround or setting to get this to work as expected? Or perhaps a different event which will work the same as the keyDown?

BuddyAPI baGetFilename not opening in correct location in OSX Mavericks

I have an application built in Director 11.5 using BuddyAPI xtra file selection dialogue baGetFilename. In OSX Mavericks (10.9.4) the dialogue doesn't seem to open in the specified path any more. It seems to default to the path last accessed in the previous file open dialogue. This has worked reliably in previous versions so I assume something has been changed in 10.9 that is confusing it.

Has anyone else come across this issue? Can anyone suggest a workaround or alternative for the file selection dialogue. I basically need to specify the path for the file selection dialogue so I can open the appropriate folder for the type of file rather than relying on the end user to successfully navigate to the location every time. I also need to filter the dialogue to particular file types. Is there an alternative to the BuddyAPI xtra that is compatible with Director 11.5 and Mavericks? Is there a workaround to get BuddyAPI to work correctly?

Use Excel to send commands from PowerPoint to open specific screens in a movie in a window

Hello All,

Excel allows a user to create a Drop Down menu that can be embedded into a PowerPoint presentation. The links in the Drop Down menu can contain hyperlinks. My question is, can the hyperlink contain the information needed to launch a MIAW that, for example, used the following criteria:

    gCommercial = window().new("RooferManual_Fall_Protection2.dxr")

    gCommercial.movie.go(190)
    gCommercial.open()

I can do this out of a director projector, added to the PowerPoint, but they perform inconsistently. Clearly, if the .dxr launch could be linked to a hyperlink in an Excel drop down menu, I'd be in clover.

There are about 80 frame based links in two movies that we would like to be able to access from within the PowerPoint through a drop down menu at anytime an instructor using the PowerPoint wanted to access them.

Any thoughts about this, including other solutions that can be easily added to PowerPoint?

Rod

Resetting the timeout with no clicks or keyboard input
SO, I have an RFID reader that is triggering events in a
director movie. My timeout is set for 2 minutes, but it is possible
for the user to never touch the keyboard or touchscreen, and still
be interacting with the program via the RFID interface. How can I
reset the timeout timer so that the program doesn't timeout in the
middle of the user's activity. I can't seem to find anything in the
documentation that mentions it, although it seems there should be
some property that I could just reset to 0. Like countDownTime or
something like that. Any ideas?

Sheesh.

Fonts don't look the same and can be VERY thin on iOS. Also they look a mess if Matte inked.

Inks other than Copy and Matte don't seem to work though I haven't tried them all. Background Transparent, NotCopy, the important ones don't.

Primitives are thinner on iOS. Try 2 rounded rectangles with sides just touching in Director.
How to delete objects created with new

Hello,

I am having a problem creating a behavior or script to delete new sprites created in channels. I have a behavior script that creates new sprites using the following (simplified) script:

First, a Beginsprite creates a gChannel_list and assigns a beginning gChannel value. pSprite is used to establish the sprite that in the mousedown is clickon.

on Beginsprite me
  gChannel_List =[]
  gChannel = 70
  pSprite = sprite(Spritenum)
end

In the mousedown the gChannel is incremented and the newly created channel is added to the gChannel_list.

on Mousedown me

  gChannel = gChannel + 1
  theChannel = addat(gChannel_List,gChannel)
  themember = pSprite.member

  ........

  channel(gChannel).makeScriptedSprite(themember, point(80,160))
  sprite(gChannel).width = thememberW
  sprite(gChannel).height = thememberH
  sprite(gChannel).rotation = theMemberR
  sprite(gChannel).moveablesprite = 1
  sprite(gChannel).ink = 36
  ........

etc

After creation of several sprites based on the the gChannel, the following globals, for example, are returned.

-- Global Variables --
gChannel_List = [71,72,73,74]
gChannel = 74

My problem is that I am unable to delete these created gchannel sprites with a lingo command. Deleting them from the list, for example, using deletat(gChannel,1), does nothing to remove them from the stage (they do disappear from the list). And while I can display their attributes such as width [n=getat(gChannel_list, x); put sprite(n).width], nothing seems to relate to deleting these gchannel sprites.

How is it done?

Hope this is enough information. If not, please let me know. I can provide whatever you might need.
Changes to cast won't stay when I switch between .dir files

Hello, first time on Adobe's forums.

First of all, this is not my original script, I was hired to bring a game from old version of Director (I believe Director 5) into Director 11.5 so it will work on new Windows OSs.

The game is broken into about 4 .dir files, and the Lingo script uses a cast named MathCityNaMu to save the game state when the players moves from one DIR file to the next.

The script creates a cast member inside of the cast file called "MathCityNaMu". At first the cast only contains one member, called "kount". The script duplicates that cast member and inserts the players name and score into the newly created duplicate cast member via this script

     member("kount").duplicate()

     member("kount").name =string(MainCharacterName)

The script then saves the cast by this line

     castLib("mathCityNaMu").save( "@casts\mathCityNaMu.cxt")

And then when the second .dir file opens, it picks up the cast via this line.

     castLib("mathCityNaMu").filename = "@casts\mathCityNaMu.cxt"

This process works when I play the game in Adobe Director. However, when I go to publish to an .exe, the functionality is lost. The .exe will hold all the character information until it makes the jump from one .dir file to another, when it loses it. It seems that for some reason the next .dir file will not pick up the right cast, or perhaps the cast is never getting saved properly in the first place. Anyway there is a lot going on in this script and I am willing to try anything. Please lend me some help!

Problem with Script Using New() to Create a #Vectorshape

Hello,

I am having a problem integrating an existing movie script into a movie I am building and I can't figure out why.

The single movie script, developed by JC in 2004, appears below. It works perfectly in a movie all by itself. But I need to integrate it into an existing movie in which other sprites and behaviors must coexist.

The problem I am seeing is that gMem is created with the new command (can see it in the message window using put gMem), but it will not allow attachment of gMem.regPoint, gMem.centerRegPoint, and so on. These all return errors.

I would also be open to another solution to the problem. What I need to do is create rectangles that represent a plan view of a rooftop on an underlying grid and then be able to drag and place other images on it (it is for training purposes, not a game).

I am using MX2004 on a PC. Fairly simple, linear stuff as it's just a prototype. Basically, it will be multiple choice questions and I have used basic lingo so far such as mousedown, mousewithin, goframe, set the blend etc. I have created 10 questions with their backgrounds in Photoshop and saved them as png files, which I've imported into the Cast on Director along with the buttons, which I also created in Photoshop and imported into the Cast. The user will need to answer 5 questions out of the 10 and I want it that director will pick them randomly. It will be a linear game where the user will answer the first question before going onto the next and so on. But I want Director to pick them randomly because if not then it will just keep displaying the same questions in a row. Does anyone know how I could do this and what lingo I would need. Have Googled it but not found anything that makes sense to me anyway.

Thanks

I checked tempo, doesn't change anything, removed xtras,

double checked some preferences that might influence but nothing.

If you have had this problem before and found out the source let me know,

Thank you

I have this with Trace on:

== Frame: 1

--> put _movie.frame

-- 1

--> end enterFrame

--> put _movie.frame

-- 1

--> end enterFrame

== Frame: 2

--> put _movie.frame

-- 2

--> end enterFrame

--> put _movie.frame

-- 2

--> end enterFrame

== Frame: 3

--> put _movie.frame

-- 3

--> end enterFrame

--> put _movie.frame

-- 3

--> end enterFrame

What on earth causes this?

Message was edited by: SunLight

iOS keyboard text entry - user must close keyboard

Right?

WRONG!

If the user doesn't close the keyboard the text entry text is not copied into the text member, so your button code copies the unaltered text.

I've tried to use:

     member("new set name").editable = 0

and

     _movie.keyboardFocusSprite = 0

and both

but it still doesn't connect the iOS text entry object to the text member.

Has anyone got a solution other than waiting for Adobe to provide another 'hot fix'?

alert() not working

This seems like a silly question but I'm suddenly having a problem with the alert function. I just upgraded a project from MX to 12. When the user takes a particular action, I use alert() to show a feedback message. The movie works fine, however, the projector does not. When I run the projector and hit the code to show the alert message, the system beeps but no message is shown. The program continues normally. I am running both the movie and the projector on Mac OS10.6. Here's the original line of code:

alert(myTextVariable&" has been added to the rolls -- you may add more students or return to Main Menu")

In attempting to narrow down the problem, I tried:

_player.alert(myTextVariable&" has been added to the rolls -- you may add more students or return to Main Menu")

alert("Test message")

_player.alert("Test message")

None of these work. Anyone else see this?

By the way, I also notice that after every time I run a movie to test a change, the Script window is closed. What is particularly annoying is that, when I reopen it, I have to find my behavior again. Does anyone have a workaround for that or know of an option to set?

However if it hasn't moved yet, then it jumps to the Game Over screen. The issue I am having is that when it resets the Hand location, it the executes the "if Hand.locH = -720 then go to "Game Over""part of the code and goes to the Game Over screen.
