I'm trying to find out if Adobe releases the Flash Lite
viewer for Japan handsets (that don't have it pre installed). I
need to get a Nokia S series phone able to view FL 2.0 content for
testing. However there is no listing of the viewer in the
adobe.co.jp website, or in their store. When I try to purchase form
the US site, it is geographically specific and will not accept my
purchase details!!

Japan invates Adobe Flash lite

(PRLog.Org) – Dec 17, 2007 – London, UK –
Playyoo, a social networking platform for creating and sharing
mobile casual games, today called on Japan’s Adobe Flash Lite
community to enter their mobile game creations in the Playyoo Game
Contest. Offering more than $25,000 USD in cash prizes, the contest
is open to independent mobile game developers using Adobe Flash
Lite technology.

Prizes include first, second, and third place awards of
$10,000, $7,000, and $3,000 respectively. In line with
Playyoo’s community-centric philosophy, winners will be
selected by Playyoo members and prizes will be awarded to the most
popular games based on download statistics and community ratings as
of February 28, 2008. Winning games will be announced and showcased
on www.playyoo.com.

“Japan has led the world in terms of Flash Lite
adoption and development. Over 85% of all handsets shipping in
Japan are Flash enabled and there is a well-established community
of experienced and creative Flash Lite developers,” said
Chris Pelly, CEO of Playyoo. “The Playyoo platform, along
with the Playyoo Game Contest, provides these developers with a
global outlet to showcase their talents.”

“Although the contest officially ends on February 28,
it’s important for developers to submit their games early.
Since the winners of the Playyoo Game Contest are based on
community ratings, making games available to Playyoo members early
on puts a developer in the best position to build a following and
take home one of the prizes,” added Thomas N. Burg, Community
Evangelist at Playyoo.

An additional $15,000 in cash prizes is available to members
of regional Flash Lite User Groups. User Group members who enter
the Playyoo Game Contest will automatically be submitted to the
2007 Flash Lite Game Contest for their regional section (Americas,
Europe and Africa, Asia Pacific). Winners will be selected by a
panel of judges comprised of representatives from Playyoo and
Adobe, as well as leading Flash Lite game developers worldwide.

Officially launching to the public in January, Playyoo brings
together developers and users of mobile casual games—entwined
in a rich social network that promotes self-expression and social
interaction. The platform is designed to encourage the widespread
use of casual mobile games with its powerful combination of free
games, user-generated content, social interaction, and personal
expression within a worldwide community. The January launch will
feature key innovations in the mobile casual game arena, including:
easy game discovery and downloads, easy-to-use game creation tools,
and social networking features.

Playyoo supports Flash Lite games developed with Adobe
Flash® Professional, version 8 or higher (CS3 recommended),
along with the Playyoo Flash Extension. The Playyoo Flash Extension
is a downloadable executable used to initiate the creation of a
Playyoo game. It adds libraries which the Playyoo server uses to
add social features, as well as pre-roll and post-roll advertising.
Using existing Flash Lite games can be as easy as copy /paste.

Complete details on the Playyoo Game Contest—including
rules, technical instructions, and upload management—can be
found at the Playyoo website, www.playyoo.com. Members of Flash
Lite user groups can check out the 2007 Flash Lite Game Contest,
sponsored by Playyoo at www.mobilecontest.org.

About Playyoo
Playyoo’s mission is to build a loyal worldwide
community around the creation and play of mobile casual games.
Today, only a small proportion of mobile phone users have
discovered the fun of mobile casual games and even fewer have had
the satisfaction of expressing themselves through this medium.
Playyoo will offer a broad selection of easy-to-find, free games,
created by members of its community, along with the fun experience
of social interaction, all on a single platform. Playyoo will
generate revenues by providing relevant advertising and other
marketing messages to its profiled community. Playyoo is a
privately held company based in London, England.

Query string with flash lite, possible?

I searched the net and Adobe website, read the complete i-mode document provided by Docomo (on adobe site) and couldn't find any information on the subject. I'm trying to figure out if this is something specific to the Japanese market or all flash lite players react the same way. I will explain my issue.

In flash, you can pass variables as a query string like this:

http://www.mysite.com/myFlashFile.swf?val=1&val2=2 (etc)

Those variables will end up on the root time line. After doing some testing, I cannot receive any of those variables if the version of flash lite is lower than 3.0. It happens for Docomo, AU, Softbank carrier, all japanese ones I tested. If I test with the Docomo emulator, I can reproduce this behavior.

Does this behavior is by design? Nobody seems to be talking about it.

Thank you for any information on the subject.

So, I want to free memory but there is no delete or null
command.
Only thing that I know about this is unloadMovieClip and
removeMovieClip.
But it seems to be not worked in most mobile phone.

The main thing that I want to do is load a swf file and free
memory and
reload other swf file.

Until now, I couldn't make it.
Do you have any information about this?

Thanks for reading.

With FlashLite around, it would be great if I can create a Flash
Anyone aware if Adobe, Nokia or Symbian doing this?

The working device is SoftBank 8012SH.

On device, running an URL to load and run SWF file. For working with SWF file, I need to load data from XML file created from

PHP code run on server. Function that was used is load(fileURL) of XML object.

    xmlData=new XML();
    xmlData.ignoreWhite=true;
    xmlData.onLoad=processXMLData;
    System.useCodepage = true;
    xmlData.load(fileURL);

"processXMLData" is the function that will process retrieved data from server.

This work has been done successfully, but my problem is that whenever Flash file want to load XML file, on both device and emulator user always have to press a key. This is a bit uncomfortable with the user.

My questions are as follows:

1. Is that the default rules of Flash Lite or my working device.

2. What should I do in this case to improve it? Is there any other way that permits me to avoid key pressing before loading data?

Expecting your answers.

Thankyou.

1. When making "kisekae" for mobile phone menues (in Japan),
i have problems with the colors property inspector. i select one
color but it chooses its own color. if i select a mc, the
properties inspector does not show. then i have to close the
program completely and restart.

2. selecting frame and adding a frame using F6 or
right-clicking, it does not duplicate the previous frame. it makes
an empty keyframe instead.

3. when using "Device Central" and developing "kisekae
menus", and when I test DoCoMo N903 and N904 series, "Device
Central" remains open, but Flash cs3 crashes.

So far nothing yet, but this has prompted me to return to
Flash 8.

Has anyone found any similar bugs in cs3?

not enough to satisfy mobile developers in Japan who work with
companies that use this as a business. From what I have seen, there
is little information about this. In Japan, we have already got the
W51CA and W52CA and W53CA, but the information only has W31CA.

What I am also worried about is the FL 3.0 phones that
support flash video. in Japan, we will have these phones at the end
of the year. But how can we make these!? There is no information
about device profiles on these phones. Is the reason because the
carriers need to make money before the developers!?

My company is currently making "Kisekae" which are packes of
Flash menus with Chaku-uta files for mobile devices. I find that
Flash 8 doesnt really help with the development of these
applications.

I really dont care if you delete this post, my company needs
to have good productive workflow. We need Flash to help us. Nokias
are NOT on our priority here. Not many people use Nokias here. We
use Hitachi, Sony, Casio, Sharp, and Fujitsu.

We really need to have a chat about this. Please help. We
need the Flash Lite 3.0 profiles so that we can prepare for the
market.

Flash lite SMS Sending >>> Automatically not manually!

Lovely HelloO!

I`ve designed a SMS reservation that user can select him/her
own food and table. But when i generate apposite SMS Write Text
Message apears that has its destination number & text and waits
for manualy sending.
I don`t want to user have to send it, and meanwhile it`s
unsecure solution!!

J2ME sends SMS without user sending even it dosn`t save in
Outbox!

I saw Floogle that opens Menu ("Option" in NOKIA,"More in
SonyEricsson",...) for One level closer but it dosn`t sends SMS
automatically..

Is there a way to do it? or do you have sample? any
idea?

Player type

Hi all,

When developing Flash Lite games and other content from NTT
DoCoMo handsets, what 'player type' is used on the phone?

I would assume 'standalone player', however, in flash (Device
Settings) when I select 'standalone player' from the 'content type'
dropdown, no NTT DoCoMo phones are available. As well as this,
'standalone player' is not mentioned on the Adobe flash enabled
handset list for NTT DoCoMo phones.

How are flash lite games played on Japanese handsets?

Cheers,
Pea

[help] - Flash animation for i-mode mobile

Hi! ^^

I'm getting a trouble while creating a game for i-mode
mobiles (DoCoMo)

It works fine in Flash8 mobile simulator. But when I tested
it in i-mode Simulator II, I got a (big) trouble:

The animations perform not very slowly but when I hold down a
key to move the character in the game, every animations are nearly
stopped! only the character can move, and when it moves, all
animations inside it are stopped too :(

Everythings can only move again when I release the key :)

Can anyone tell me how to solve this problem?

ah, moreover, even when I hold down a key but let the
flashplayer do nothing (i don't make the character move anymore and
let all the movieclips work it own), the animations still slow
down. It seem that the CPU spend too much time/power to process
these keyevents :(

Thanks ^o^
