How can I make slides NOT advance automatically?

I'm building a project manually by making new slides and putting graphics and text on them. It's not a recording of software. I would like the user to read each slide for as long as they want to, then click to go to the next one. I can't find a setting for this.

I tried setting the default slide duration to 300 sec. Which sort of works, but every element I add to a slide still defaults to 3 sec so I have to change each element seperately. Not practical at all. ideas?

I am a long-time Articulate user - began with Studio 5. After wrestling with Studio 13 for seven months I've had enough! It's just a buggy-as-hell bare update of Studio 9 that lacks features from 9 and has pointless changes. I think the "A-Team" went on the Storyline team and the Studio 13 was turned over to some rookies.

Our enthusiasm for Articulate was that it is based in Powerpoint and we're real good with that. I understand that Captivate can import PPT, but does it do this readily and completely? Is the current PPT fully supported? I'd like to be able to continue to apply my capability, and of course I'd become fully capable with Captivate too. I don't want just a web conversion program.

Thing is, I don't know a single Captivate user. And I'd like to hear from some before I make my decision. I'm definitely through and done with Articulate forever, but there are a couple of alternatives to Captivate too.

In Captivate 8, can we save a .cp file back as a Captivate 7 version?

In Captivate 8, can we do a "save as" somehow and select Captivate 7 as the version, like we can do with Microsoft Word? (In Microsoft Word we can save back to an earlier version if we need to).

Captivate 8 - How do I move the Timeline from the bottom to the top of the screen? The user guide says we can do this but doesn't explain how. Previous versions of Captivate had an area on the Timeline that we used to drag it. Don't see that in Captivate 8

(if we don't use the specific functionality which is unique to Captivate 8 but just the items common to both?)

When setting up preferences and filling out the manifest, what's the Project Name? Is the the name of the larger project, or the name of the individual lessons? This is for a Multi-SCORM package.

This seems like a question that should have been answered in the documentation. When I create a project that is a single course with multiple lessons, and I'm setting up preferences and filling out the manifest, what's the title? Is that the name of the course or the name of the individual lesson?

I placed a smart caption on the Master Slide. However, it can be clicked, ignoring the time frame for the slide. Is there a way to stop advanced automation, use the smart caption but still hold the participant to stay on that slide until it has played completely?

I also have another question about the assessment slide as well but I will post another comment if I can't answer that question.

OK, I am getting familiar with basic issues like video demo, audio editing, and powerpoint import, and the scaling issues. Now that I've proven I can make a 12 minute example, how do i approach the top level organizational problems ? I want to be able to diaplay the 12 modules of my course to the user, and show what is done and what isn't . I want to be able to display the time for each module in an overview slide ( Ihave to make it myself?) How can I prototype how things will work over a real wed server, instead of publishing "to computer" ?

Where can I look for advize and guides for this next level of practical issues ?

So far my journey into E-Learning has been to use PowerPoint to create PowerPoint Show's (ppsx) adding questions along the way to test understanding. I have not yet had the need to publish the content on our Intranet as it sits on our central server available to all. This though is a natural progression as I will need to offer both the ability to attend classroom style training along with the flexibility of self led learning.

My real question if I understand the ability & limitations of Adobe Presenter is whether I should be looking at Captivate instead of Presenter - or possibly both! My biggest and urgent need is to be able to create self led learning content on IT Systems such as SAP and other company specific IT systems.

I believe that I cannot 'video' screen movements in real time in Presenter but can in Captivate, am I right in this? Your thoughts on Presenter, Captivate or a better platform to achieve what I need would be gratefully received!

Resizing panels on the right side? [Captivate 7]

I'm pretty sure I remember being able to drag the panels to resize them in Captivate 6. For example, if you hover your mouse over the line between the timeline and the project aea, you can drag it to make it smaller or bigger. Similarly, wasn't I able to do this between the project area and the panels on the right side, that contains the properties panel, library, project info, etc? It's letting me minimize or open it, but not resize it in Captivate 7.

I want to set up a project based on a template. I've set up a template file and when I open it I can see the first slide, based on the template. The next step for me is to insert a second slide, also based on the template., but it seems impossible. All I want is a project where my logo appears on every slide.

I'm on a virtual desktop with no local drives. Captivate 8 is telling me that I can't save Preferences, Projects, or Cache items to a network drive. I have no choice in the matter. Any ideas how I can get around this? Thanks.

Captivate 8, Windows 7.

I've included a photo to show behind the PLAY button when Auto Play is not checked. I've used this before in previous Captivate versions with great success. But now when I publish it, the photo shows up as an ugly red background. What happened to the photo? Are there photo limitations for this action?

Javascript does not work in web browser

This script only works in preview in Captivate, but does not work in web browser (IE 9, Mozilla, Chrome).

What a run around this has been! I've been trying to install your software for close to an hour. I receive a message that my computer's clock is not current, even though our 10,000 computer clocks are set by our servers which in-turn are set to the US atomic clock via the internet. So, I try calling support and can't get anything other than a busy signal. Then, I try to register offline, and I'm required to enter my "computer request code", but I'm never told where to find it or how to get it! So, I went to Adobe Communities for assistance and can't seem to do anything without logging in multiple times. This has been a horrible customer experience for me. How does anyone install this software?

Slide Transitions - more choices?

I have PowerPoint 2010 and there are quite a few "slide transitions" to chose from. It seems that there are only about 10 options in Captivate. Is there a way to download more transitions or create my own?

I've been printing other files this morning successfully but now I'm not able to print anything. I've never encountered this problem before.

The file is relatively small; only 39 slides.

FYI - These are files created in Captivate 7 that I've pulled into Captivate 8, if that's part of the problem.

I am working with Captivate 6.1 via a subscription license. The current file was created from scratch at 2048 x 2100 for new iPad retina resolution. While only 2 slides, the file is complicated - most images hidden and grouped and then called as groups via advanced actions.

Today I started getting "A fatal error has occurred and the application is being terminated. Adobe Captivate has tried to save all your work in the respective project folders as ".cpbackup" files. Please restart Adobe Captivate."

I deleted prefs and cleared cache as instructed here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1267044. Same. I backed up and started using a file from about 30 minutes before. Same. I backed up 2 hours and started using that file, worked slowly and methodically... eventually same.

Here is what I am noticing:

Application seems to run slower with delays whenever I touch the x/y location of any item.
If I mess with groups at all, I am likely to crash the file. Culprits include changing order of objects in the group. Adding additional objects to existing groups. Changing the order of the groups.

Is there any way to recover existing work?

Should I just start over without using any groups? I was using groups to make advanced actions easier to write and edit. Any known issues with groups in Captivate 6.1?

Am I dooming myself with 2048 x 2100? Any known bugs?

I want the learner to be able to access any topic listed in my TOC but currently this function doesn't work when I preview in the HTML browser. I have checked the TOC 'Enable Navigation' setting and de-selected the 'Navigate Visited Slides Only'. I'm working on a MAC with delivery intended for IPads and tablets, if that matters. Why can't I navigate to any topic I want? What else do I need to set?

Problem with Failure text on Click Boxes (Cp7)

HI everyone.

Not sure if I am going crazy.

I have a click box on a screen, not scored, that I would like to display the failure text if the user clicks in the wrong spot. Sounds simple enough and works if I have no Forward and Back buttons on the page.

As soon as I add some smartshape buttons as Forward and Back the Failure text does not work.

Am I missing something????

Click Box is set to infinite attempts, Go to next slide on success. Pause project until user clicks. Pause to show captions. Captions displaying for 3 secs. The smartshape navigation buttons have no pauses set.

Thought it maybe the quiz settings even though the click box is not scored. Set Branched Aware and Allow Backward movement. No Success

Can anyone help out? or have I found a bug with Cp7?

How to create storyboard/workflow?

I'm very new to CP8 (several hours new) and read with interest the short piece here on creating a storyboard and workflow first. I always think that's the best approach to build something like this. However, it doesn't say how to use CP8 to do that. Typically I use outlining tools and create the visuals last, but it's not obvious to me how to do that here without using external text editing tools. Any suggestions?

How is the glossary widget useful when the slide won't stop?

This is my first day trying to learn Captivate 8. I created a glossary widget on a blank page thinking it might serve as a valuable resource. When I preview it, the widget doesn't even show up until most of ther way through the time duration and then stops. I must be missing something obvious because apparently C8 creates movies, not self timed pages. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Looking to hire for a simple Captivate 8 template for young children

I need only a few of the pages that are in the usual templates. Most are unworkable for my purposes.

I need the questions to be audio rather than written. I need the font much, much larger.

I present a small video chunk of teaching. The next slide checks if the child got it, with AUDIO instructions or questions, not the written ones that the templates offer. For now, I don't need to go into following paths. i want it very simple. I would use drag and drop, matching, and acclerometer (?sp?). The adult way most others are set up don't work for my audience, unless you could adapt them.

I don't have time to learn this whole thing and figure it out. i need someone to create it, and then i would duplicate and replace words and audio, AFTER you've taught me how to do so.

Do you know anyone who could help me with this? Or could you?

Computer way too slow in Captivate 7

2 months ago I installed Captivate 7 (I also have Captivate 5 on my computer for editing older projects). When working in Captivate 7, my computer nearly grinds to a halt. I don't have this problem in Captivate 5. Saving and previews take forever and the system frequently becomes non-responsive and occasionally crashes. The IT people can't seem to do anything and are blaming the software rather than my system (which they say is otherwise working fine). I have uninstalled and reinstalled Captivate 7 and it didn't make any difference. I noticed that the size of the program is 3.45GB whereas Captivate 5 was only 1.48 - not sure if that has something to do with it. My OS is Windows 7. Has anyone had similar problems? It's got to the point where I feel paralyzed and spend collectively hours a day staring at my computer waiting for it to complete the simplest task.

I'm creating a website tutorial where the user simulates logging in and getting around the various parts of the website. However, I'm creating this at a smaller resolution- 800x600, so of course the screenshots I am using are too large. It seems like my choices are to fit the image to the stage so that it's immersive and you can see everything, but then everything looks distorted and odd. Or I can keep the correct aspect ratio so you can see everything, but then there is a blank white space above and beneath the image, which takes you out of the experience, as well as makes the text on the site harder to see, since it is shrunk. Or I can make it full screen by just cropping out areas of the screenshot that the user isn't interacting with. The only problem with this is that it seems like it might not look great when users log into a simulated web site and only see a small part of it with everything else cropped.

I know that simulations are popular with Captivate, so I'm wondering if anyone has a recommendation of what people generally do in this situation, a workaround, or what looks best.

I have installed it successfully on my Macbook air using the same file

I have 6, and 7 on my iMAC and never had any problems installing software on this machine before.

Where are the additional shapes in Captivate 8?

This might be a very simple question, and it could be somewhere obvious, but I am just curious as to where any additional shapes might be. In Captivate 7, when you clicked on shapes, you got a large selection of different shapes you could use. In Captivate 8, there is just a small handful.

I was trying to capture a simulation when a pop-up window came with this error:

"A fatal error has occurred and the application is being terminated. Adobe Captivate has tried to save all your work in the respective project folders as ".cpbackup" files.Please restart Adobe Captivate."

I tried every possible solution but i am getting the same error. Even now, i am not able to open a blank project. I cleared Preferences and Cache, Restarted the system, uninstalled and re-installed captivate but the error occurs.

Hi, I am trying to merge 6 separate files together into one. 3 are basically .ppt slides with animation, 2 are interactive demonstrations, and 1 is a quiz. Because of the screen size of the software I was capturing, the interactive demonstrations are at a different size than the .ppt slides. I thought about defining a link to open the 2 demonstrations in a new window, but haven't been able to make that work yet. Also, one demonstration is published as a SWF file, while the others are HTML5.

If you have any suggestions on the best way to proceed with this (and succeed!), I would be appreciative. I am using Captivate 6.0.0.199.

I'm having issues in Adobe Captivate 7 with the animated red circle.

I use it in 6 different slides, each slide is identical, except for the audio and the location of the animated red circle. Two of the slides play automatically when entering, as I would like them to. The animated red circle appears after a short period of time as I set it to. The other four slides play the narration when entering, but the slides pause when entering. I have all of these slides set to continue upon entering. I don't see any differences between the settings on the slides. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Until now I've always been employed or contracted to the company I'm designing for, and so I have always used their Captivate Licence on their computers. I'm now starting to design in a freelance capacity and as such the Captivate Licence will be mine and it will be installed on my computer.

My question is - what do I do when the software that I'm designing for is on the client's computer, not mine? For various reasons it is not always possible to get the client's software installed on my computer. I would imagine this is a common issue, so what do other people do?

Hi,

this is probably a very simple question but I'm a beginner to Captivate and somehow cannot find the solution in the basic tutorials.

I want to create a few slides with buttons on them. The buttons will activate various pop-ups, show/hide images and apply some image effects.

I would also like to use my own navigation buttons so that the user can freely go to the next/previous slide (and maybe also to any slide from each of them).

What I would like to do is to "reset" each slide whenever the user decides to go back to it.

Now when I click a go back to previous slide button I get the "final" state of the slide, the way I left it and I need it to reset to its initial state - so all the above mentioned advanced actions (showing images and po-pups) can be triggered again with the buttons.

Does the navigation button has to execute advanced actions that will clear the slide again or should that be done in a simplier way? I would appreciate any help on that.

captivate cannot control(Play/pause random) the embedded swf

I realize this may be a stupid question...how do I re-dock the timeline to the bottom of the screen? I accidentally un-docked it, and now I can't get it back, no matter what I do. I've searched the internet and all I get is "Yes, you can dock the timeline!" but no how-to.

Hello,

I'm trying to record a software demonstration of interatcting with a website and filling out the profile page. Captivate opens fine, loads quickly, sets-up for recording correctly, and begins recording with no issues. But during the recording, if I hit anything but letters on my keyboard, it crashes out. I have no other software open except Captivate and Firefox with only one tab active on the webpage I'm recording.

I downloaded and installed all updates today and it still crashed whenever I tried to record as listed above.

Thoughts?

We have Captivate installed on a PC and a Mac and I was wondering if it's safe to open a windows cptx file on a mac. I tried opening a project file created on a PC on the Mac and noticed that the font size changed (bigger) after publishing even if it looked fine when i opened it. Anyone else experienced this?

It seems to me that you can just do your edits on the master slide, and you would not need the feature. If I am misunderstanding please let me know, thanks.

Loss of Close/OK button on Slide Audio's Closed Captioning tab

Hello,

I'm using Cp 6 (6.0.1.240) and I've lost access to the close button on the Slide Audio's Closed Captioning tab. I don't know how it happened. I have been adding closed captioning for a while for both this project and others in the past and this has never happened before. I've tried un-installing Cp and re-installing it. When that didn't work, I un-installed the entire eLearning Suite and re-installed it but still I get the view you see below where a grey area blocks the bottom half of the window. I can't scroll beyond that area of grey. Also, once in the Slide Audio window and I can't access the close button, I'm forced to go to Windows Task Manager to close Cp.

Delayed Slide Opening

Hello,

I'm using Cp 6 and in preview or after I publish, sometimes the next slide doesn't open completely. My latest example prematurely shows the highlight box on the current screen before the next screen on which the highlight box is actually located opens. I've tried a number of tricks (moving the highlight box fuirther out on the timeline, moving it in to 0 sec, duplicating the slide and removing the highlight box and putting that slide before the slide w/ the highlight box) but nothing I do prevents the highlight box from appearing on the prior screen.

I don't know if this is related or a separate issue but sometimes a slide doesn't fully load and I see the background color when previewing or after publishing but none of the text or images from the screen capture appears.

My team is working on a training product that has a minimum 120 minute lenth of time (required by law) that the learner needs to spend in the course (in addition to completing it, of course). We use other apps in the tech comm suite and I am wondering if captivate 7 has a function to set a required course time.

I am pretty new to Captivate, however its new capabilities look great and I am looking to use this for future elearning projects.

We need to define the technical requirements however I dont feel the following page provides me with all of the information I need.

I wondered if anyone else has any more documentation on this at all?

I need to find out the following info:

What are the supported browsers for the end user (not the user of the software, but the published output)
What is the required Flash Player version of the end user (again not the user of the software, but the published output)

If anyone has any more information on this I would be really grateful.
