Captivate 7 Software Simulation no longer records.

I've been using the software for months. Now all of the sudden when I try to record a simulation Captivate will not capture mouse clicks or movements or screen chaanges. The only things I can get to record are keystrokes. i.e. typing, TAB, Enter.

I'm using Captivate 7 64bit on windows 7 64bit.

Hi, I am a brand new user to captivate and i am wanting to make use of the video demo option to record a training session on Microsoft Office Applications. This requires me to record both the screens that i am using and my voice (using a headset). I am currently fumbling around with this because i cannot seem to find any help material or tutorials on how to use it - is there anything available? Also, just one really simple question, how do i pause the demo and then re-start it? I can currently only end the project using the End key.

Hi all,

When i start a screen recording in Captivate 8 for a Software Simulation or Video Demo on my MAC OSX 10.9.4 , I cannot end the video using the cmd+enter method. I have to force quit to end the program. Anyone have any solutions to this issue?

Captivate 8 - Mouse Click/Audio Narration Issue

I receorded my software simulation, then added recorded narration to each slide afterward. When I go to preview my course, each time the mouse click happens, the audio narration volume is decreased slighly before, during, and slightly after the mouse click. I wish I could say it was by a neglible amount, but on certain slides it nearly "covers" my narration completely. I can't seem to find anything in the Adobe Captivate forums about this specifically, which is surprising! So that leads me to believe there is a setting somewhere. Has anyone else encountered this?

How do I get the recording slide to stop recording!

I'm trying to create a custom simulation. Our software contains a lot of pop-up dialogue boxes with scrolling functionality that gets cut off and I am unable to select items in these boxes while recording. If I could view the entire screen, while recording that would be optimal. Thanks much.

Recording a Full Screen Video Demo as a Recording Slide

I usually create blank projects that have a various kinds of slides--simulations, demos, content slides, etc. When choosing to record a video demo inside of these presentations, I seemed forced to snap my application window into the tiny red box. If I were recording a whole new video demo as a project, I have many more options like full screen.

Is there a way to record a full screen video demo as a recording slide to be inserted into my blank project? I know I could just record a bunch of individual video demo projects as insert them as "media" into my blank project, but this inconvenient and time consuming. It also creates confusion since the project itself and the video demo both have control bars.

Trying to record a video demo inside Photoshop, for example, is really difficult inside that tiny little window. Also, I prefer not to pan, as I find it jarring and unhelpful for my students.

Any thoughts?

Odd characters showing in capture

Captivate 8 Mac.

After a basic recording I've noticed the highlight boxes include a string of lovely dingbats. The same characters show regardless of the color of highlight box used. I have no idea how to get rid of this. The characters behave like text in that if the highlight box is narrowed considerably the characters don't show. I didn't think to check the XML files for the highlights to see if they include some odd tag.

Captivate 5 for Mac - keyboard commands not working

I just fired up Captivate 5 for Mac for the first time and am trying to create a recording, but the command+enter key does not stop the recording and instead captures a screenshot. In fact, every command combination I try does that and the only way to stop the recording is to click on the icon in the status bar at the top. What am I doing wrong? I have searched through the forum and help and don't see anyone else having this problem.

ghost lines in published files

My published files contain ghost lines specifically during actions such as scrolling and typing. When I play the single frame I do not see these ghost lines. Additionally, I don't see these lines when I Preview the next 5 slides.

I have set the Quality to "Optimized" and "High (24 Bit)" for the appropriate frames. This doesn't impact the ghost lines.

I imported a PPT for the first three introductory slides, then recorded the remaining (52) frames by clicking the Record additional slides for this project.

I published numerous times, eliminating the Advanced Project Compression and Compress SWF file checkboxes does not eliminate the problem.

The Retain Slide Quality Settings checkbox is selected.

I have 30 frames per second selected in the Publish Settings area.

Is it possible to change the timing on recorded slides that have scrolling or mouse wheel?

i've recorded a Captivate with several slides of zooming in using the mouse wheel. Is there any way to edit the length of the motion slides to shorten them? Currently, this us using about ten seconds of time. Thank you.

Captivate 8 recording and slide themes

When I record in Captivate 8, the custom theme slide I use is always on top of the application background I recorded. The only way I can record software simulations currently is to record them in a new project and then copy and paste the application over a slide in the target project. Pasting as background also puts the application under the slide theme. I've used this same theme in Cap 7 and never had this issue.

Captivate 7 not capturing information in boxes on screen

Hi,

I'm using Captivate 7 to record a software simulation in Training mode. It looks fine when I am recording, but when I come to edit there are a number of screens where a box hasn't been recorded properly. You just get a blank white box.

I am recording on Windows 7 (though a colleague is having this problem recording the same system on XP)

Here is an example - the top box should be populated, but it is showing as empty. This seems to be happening randomly through the file.

Any ideas?

Sound not matching recording Captivate 7

I just completed my first recording with a SME (subject matter expert) and am running into some major issues. The recording does not match the sound. I had the SME record the audio as they were simulating the software. All of the audio is playing but not all of the content that we recorded. A lot of the actual demo is missing and so the audio recording is talking about things that are not even showing... does this make sense? I am so confused and cannot figure out what I did wrong!

1980 X 1200 Monitor resolution and recording size

I got a new large monitor that is 1980 x 1200. If I record something at a lower size (800 x 600 or any of the options offered) I only get a teeny part of the screen. I tried setting my monitor to a lower resolution and ended up with a work area between two black stripes and the recording still wasn't optimal. How do I record when I have a large monitor?

Hi I have just installed Captivate 7 (64-bit version) onto my Windows 8.1 machine. I am attempting to use the software simulation capture to capture a demo using Internet Explorer. I have set the capture size to custom and set the red box to line up over the browser's page area, but after I complete the recording, the project in Captivate shows the screen offset to the left and above (at least 100 pixels in each direction) away from the capture area specified. I have tried using the application window area option as well, and this gives the same results.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this some kind of bug?

Captivate 7 Software Simulation not Recording Full Screen

When I record a Software Simulation in Captivate 7 it does not record the full screen. When I make the recording the red box shows that it should be recording everything but it does not. It cuts off the bottom and right hand parts of the screen. Sometimes it even shows the red line in the slide. I feel like I have tried EVERYTHING and can't figure it out. Any help would be great! Two Mice Appearing in Recording - Please Help!

I use Captivate 6 on a MAC OSX 10.9.2

I record manually with the "Automatic" setting and I'm capturing TWO mice, rather thna one mouse movement. One mouse is moveable (as expected), however the other is static and I am spending A LOT of development time to cover up with screencaps and overlays. This is driving me crazy!

I have played with the following settings and seen no resolution:

Preferences > Recording > Modes - I deselect/select "show mouse location and movement"
Preferences > Recording > Video Demo - I deselect/select "show mouse in video demo mode"
Clearning cache
Uninstalling/Reinstalling Captivate

Has anyone else seen this? Is this a known issue? I have searched and not found anything on the topic. Please help!

Hi, I'm quite new to Captivate and have just started using version 4. I have a requirement to build a demonstration based on a UI within a browser window. I've created a new Software Simulation project and specified "Application" under the record tab, my browser window as the target and "Application Region" as the Snap Recording value. I'm then able to snap to the region of the browser window without problem and record away. If I end that recording session to make changes to the slides and then record again, the "Application Region" snap function no longer seems to work meaning I have to manually move the window to the required postion which often doesn't match up to the other slides. Am I doing something wrong here of have I missed a step? Any help would be much appreciated. Many Thanks

Menus of Software Being Captured Freeze

I am using the latest version of Captivate 6 (checked updates). I am trying to capture software demos with Automatic (no panning, no narration). When I start the capture on the software I'm capturing, I select File > Open on that software, and that File menu on the software I'm capturing "sticks" (I select Open, it brings up a dialog box, but I can't get the File menu to go away).

I've tried the ESC key and CTRL W for refresh, but it sticks and ruins the simulation (it lets me continue to capture the demo, but that menu sticks).

Can't Record

I am using the trial version of Captivate7.with Windows 7

When I attempt ot record, the little wndow pops up, but the program freezes. The only way to unfreeze it is via task manager. If I simply end the Captivate program, that doesn't work, I have to go in and end the Captivate process via task manager.

Since there doesn't seem to be any support function for this product, I guess this forum is it.

I recorded a lot slides yesterday, a mixture of automatic captures and some manual print-screen captures.

During preview and after publish (swf), I had a slide where the background was not updating.

That is Slide 1 > Slide 2, Slide 2 would show Slide 1's background at runtime, but on the editing stage slide 2 show's the correct background image.

I tried duplicating slide 1 and slide 2, then deleting the original slides but no change.

This morning I right clicked on slide 2, and 'find background in library' and it showed me the background image in the library for slide 1. I searched through the library but did not find the background image for slide 2.

Is there something I'm doing to cause this while recording, or is there some way to fix it while editing?

I have just installed Captivate 7 on a Windows 7 64bit PC. It will take one or two screenshots while recording then stops responding to the PrtScn key. Captivate doesn't stop when I hit the End key either. I have tried Fn PrtSCn and Cntl PrtScn and tried Running as Administrator. Can anyone help please?

Captivate resets microphone volume

I'm using Captivate with a Logitech USB headset for recording narration. I've found that no matter how low I set the microphone volume in the control panel, when I record audio in Captivate, it bumps up to 100% (after closing Captivate, if I go back to the control panel, the volume is all the way up). I've tried this on several PCs with two different USB headsets, with the same results, so it looks like a software issue. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Captivate 7 is only recordin the top left hand of my screen (almost like im zooming in) no matter if im panning or not, what mode im in (simutlation demonstration etc) and it doesnt matter how big or small i make the screen either. Hi All,

I am new to Captivate 6 and i have been tasked with recording a tutorial video for AutoCAD drawings.

While recording the video blue lines (part of the AutoCAD drawing) will randomly dissapear and ten reapear, i have attached three images taken at 13 seconds and 14 seconds and 2m 32s into the video.

You will notice the blue lines have dissapeared they reappear at 2min 32sec again and then dissapear. i would upload the video but i was not sure of the upload size limit as the file is 19,502kb.

Any sugetions or advice would be greatly appreciated

Bei der Funktion "Videodemo" wird das Resultat verschoben aufgenommen und erscheint grösser (Zoom).

Bei der Fensterauswahl ist nur ein teil sichtbar.

Maus und Cursor werden nicht am richtigen Ort angezeigt.

Captivate 7 re-sizes recording window when dragged

I have just had Canptivate 7 installed at work. I have used all the Captivate versions from 5. When I try to record full screen from inside a blank project (1024x768 resolution) the recording window doesnt include the task bar at the bottom. When I try to drag the recording window down it changes in size to 1024x748. I havent installed the 7 patch and i'm wondering is this a known error and will the patch fix. If I record as a simulation from scratch in full screen I dont get this issue.

I tried to capture a system simulator using Adobe Captivate 5, this is something i have done many times and never had this problem. When i was capturing a part of the system which had tabs or items you could select to add in to a box on the same screen, Captivate would not capture this (it usually would). I was pretty sure I had set it up correctly so i tried again ... Software Simulation - Training (Also not working on Assessment as i have tried this option too). Again it didn't work. So I tried again, this time i went in to settings to check it was set up correctly, but it was on Demonstration and not Training (or Assessment when I tried this) and the Click Box option was grayed out. I changed it in the drop down box to Training (& tried the same with assessment) and clicked OK to save it and tried to capture the system again, and had the same issue again. Please see the pic below:

I tried it again, this time I checked the settings, changed it to training (also tried it with assessment), clicked Ok to save it, then went back into settings to see if it had saved, but it had gone back to Demonstration and the Click Box option was grayed out again. I have tried clicking on restore defaults and this hasn't done anything. Does anyone have any idea's on what the issue is and how to fix this?

why is screencording element not playing

I've done a screencording using the simulation mode and almost all of it works fine. However on this one screen the part of the window that I have outlined in red shows up correctly in the thumbnail and workspace but does not show in the preview or published file. The mouse track therefore runs across a blank grey area and a selection window opens with nothing visble to show which part of the screen is being selected. I can't see anything different about this screen from all the others which work fine.

We have partners in India and the Philippines. They don't have Captivate. Can they record in other file formats, send them to me, and I can convert and edit the movies? They are working on systems that have settings that apply only to them and so we cannot replicate how they use systems.

Captivate 7 Application Recording in a Region/Custom Size

Is there any way to combine the Application Regions and Custom Size Snap to settings when recording an application in Captivate 7? For example, my organization has recording standards that require that we do not include a search bar, tabs, web address, etc. when recording within a web based application. We also have standards that dicate a 980x600 size. Is there a way to Snap to the Application Region of the content, and then have the application resize itself so that the selected region is the correct size? Right now, when I select Custom Size, the entire application resizes within the specified size.

I'm a new captivate user. I'm trying to edit an audio file, but the editing tools appear to be disabled/greyed out (see below). How do I enable these tools? (Note: I am the system administrator, so I don't believe this is a system access issue, but I could be wrong).

How to get clear screen shots?

All I need is a screen print of a spreadsheet to add to my Captivate demo. I've tried doing a screen grab via SnagIt and editing in Paint, but my end result remains blurry and hard to read. The spreadsheet takes up a normal size screen but I need it to fit in a 800 x 575 space. The users don't need it for detail, but I need something that's not blurry. See my Snagit result below.

Also, I tried capturing this image using Captivate 6 but, althought it was the better quality shot, it doesn't provide me a full view of the spreadsheet in the size that I need.

Is there anyway to get a good image that would accommodate my space restrictions.

The Recording Option dailog doesn't appear

Win 7 with Captivate 7,

After clicking the Record Additional Slide button, and a slide after which to start, it doesn't display the Recording Options window, or anything.

This only occurs when I have a specific SW App open (that our co. created). AND it worked fine with Captivate 6 since then, but only once. Now neither 6 nor 7 work.

Any ideas?

Problem Recording - screen capture isn't capturing correct window

I'm working in Captivatre 7 on a Mac, and I'm trying to add a recording slide to do a tutorial in Photoshop. When I do the screen capture, and then finish, it takes me back to Captivate, and all the slides have the background of my captivate template instead of the Photoshop window. This hasn't happened to me before, and all the settings look the same - I've used screen capture in Captivate 5 & 6, but not 7 yet. When I went to try the screen capture in Captivate 6 also, it's doing the same thing. Some of the motions (but not all) are being captured correctly - the text captions are referencing the motions related to Photoshop. Here are some photos below - the orange background is my Captivate background template, and I've added some photos of my settings. Any help is appreciated!

Cp 6: Recording sound problem

I am using Cp 6, and when I play back my recording clips, the sound it barely audible because it's so soft (i.e. it sounds like it's way off in the distance). Even though I am NOT speaking softly. Can anyone help me with this issue please? Thanks!

Is there any way to change default background from bmp in Captivate 7 recordings?

Any time I make a recording, be it demo, training etc it always saves the captured background as a bmp in the library.

I can manually export, edit, then reimport each of the files as jpgs, which looses no quality but reduces the size of the published file by about 50%, and the project file itself by about 80%.

Is there a way to change the default capture mode to save me this massive chore each time I record a project? or some other way around it?

Capture border, mouse movements and screen area showing incorrectly

I'm using Captivate4 on Win7 Pro 32bit to record a web demonstration on IE8. Setting the capture area only records a portion of the selected area, and portions outside (and including) the red boundary line. Mouse movements and clicks are also off. I've disabled hardware acceleration and tried a few different screen resolutions.

This occurs in every recording mode and in every capture arrangement - application, predefined, or custom size. Full screen recording captures the correct area, but the slides are very large and cursor actions are still off. The border disappears when Hide is checked, but the area captured is still completely different from the area selected.

I've included screenshots of both the capture area selected and the actual area recorded.

If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it - thanks in advance!

When I record a simulation in training mode, it inserts the captions, highlights and click boxes whenever I click something, but in most cases is unable to read the labels and every caption says "Click the scroller area" instead of the name of the link or button.

So I am wondering what Captivate uses to determine the labels for those captions. I'm recording a web application, so if there is something I can tell our developers to add (such as alt text or title tags) I'd love to know that. Or is it something in my settings?

Inconsistent audio on slides using same microphone

We are having difficulty getting consistent audio when recording to separate slides. Using the same microphone plugged into the microphone jack, we can get one slide with clear audio and another slide where the audio sounds muffled and fuzzy. We have calibrated the microphone and tried adjusting the volume on the slides (normalize, ratio, threshold, etc) without any luck. Is there something else to try in Captivate or do you think it is an issue with the microphone and/or jack. We are just using a standard Labtech desktop microphone. Thank you!

Can't end recording session

When I am recording in demo mode, the End button does not stop my recording session. I have to do my recording over a Remote Desktop Connection. In order to stop the recording I hae to leave the RDC and clcik the Captivate icon. This stops the recording but all of the steps I had to perform are also included in my video frames. They can be deleted but it is a real pain. Any suggestions?
